My Odysseus As An Epic Hero
There are many epic heroes in literature that i could have chosen, but I decided to go with Odysseus. When I first read the odyssey, I loved it and I still do. I loved it not only for the Greek culture, action or monsters. I fell in love with the book because of the characters mainly Odysseus, before I learned what an epic hero was I already knew that Odysseus was one.On his journey throughout this book he was courageous, wise, intelligent, loyal and many more. He is also a father and a husband, he showed so much loyalty to them by never giving up on them and never betraying them. I know loyalty is not one of the qualities to be an epic hero but to me it is. Odysseus is a hero in many ways whether it's an epic one or a spiritual one he will always be considered a great one to me.

This shows his importance because a normal person without any divine powers is unlikely to get help from a god or goddess such as Athena. Odysseus proves his help from the gods by explaining to his son Telemachus, “ suppose Athena’s arm is over us and Zeus her father’s,” ( Homer Part 2). Athena helps Odysseus by assisting him with valuable information for his journey home. In the hero’s journey this same concept is explained, “ a character who has mastered the laws of the outside world and come back to bestow wisdom upon them,” ( Campbell 3). The hero’s journey is just like this when Athena explains how and what will happen when Odysseus returns…

Odysseus made the Cyclops drunk with his liquor before blinding him and allowing his crew to escape on the underside of the sheep of the island. Finally, the main hero of the story was perseverant, as illustrated when he left Ogygia, battled Poseidon’s storms, and made it to King Alcinous’s island.…
