My Odysseus As An Epic Hero

There are many epic heroes in literature that i could have chosen,but I decided to go with Odysseus. When I first read the odyssey, I loved it and I still do. I loved it not only for the Greek culture, action or monsters. I fell in love with the book because of the characters mainly Odysseus, before I learned what an epic hero was I already knew that Odysseus was one.On his journey throughout this book he was courageous, wise, intelligent, loyal and many more. He is also a father and a husband, he showed so much loyalty to them by never giving up on them and never betraying them. I know loyalty is not one of the qualities to be an epic hero but to me it is. Odysseus is a hero in many ways whether it's an epic one or a spiritual one he will always be considered a great one to me.

Odysseus showed courageousness throughout his whole journey. He always wanted to show bravery to his solders, so they would believe that they could defeat any challenge that would come their way. Even though he feared he stayed strong. His only goal was to get back home to his family and he was willing to do anything to
get them back even though it took a lot. Odysseus may have feared but he stayed strong. He did not let his fear get the best of him, and that took courage, not only was he courageous with others he was also very courageous with him self. he did not let his fear define who he was instead he was an epic hero.

Odysseus showed intelligence in many ways throughout the odyssey.
One of the times he showed the act of intelligence was when he told Polyphemus his name was nothing. Odysseus was also a very wise man. He was the goddess Athena's favorite.Athena is the goddess of wisdom daughter of Zeus. She helped him with the Trojan horse that helped them conquer the city of troy. She helped him mostly throughout the odyssey. Odysseus was also one of the best soldiers. That also took a lot of intelligence. This is also one of the many reasons why Odysseus is an epic
hero.

Odysseus also showed so much loyalty to his family. Even after twenty years he never gave up trying to get back to them. Odysseus denied Calypso when she offered him immortality. He conquered every obstacle course that came his way to get back to his family, whom he truly loved very much. He did not only show loyalty to his family but to his soldiers as well. He showed his loyalty in many ways and gained their trust, and even thought loyalty does not qualify for being an epic hero it was one of the reasons why he survived. Without loyalty to his family there would be no hope and without hope he wouldn't have gotten home. this is my favorite characteristic that Odysseus showed to be my epic hero.

Odysseus is a hero for many other things, but despite all the magnificent things that made him a hero. He was also a human who made mistakes and that's okay. He did more good then bad and that's good. A hero doesn't have to be perfect. Odysseus was not perfect, but he will always be a great hero to me. I do not need a perfect hero all I need is a role model. Someone to look up too or maybe just for entertainment. The odyssey is an epic story with an epic hero and his name is Odysseus.
