Everybody has distinctive strengths and weaknesses that influences their writing style, just as the process applied to a writing project is unique to the individual. How I approach a writing assignment and transfer my thoughts into a cohesive essay is my unique writing process. Using my strengths and being aware of my weaknesses enhances my writing.…
When I look at myself as a writer, I see that I have my own strengths can also be weaknesses. One of my strengths I feel that I have as a writer is that I am very critical of my work. I review multiple copies of my writing. This tends to help when I am critiquing the overall voice and direction of my paper. A weakness of mine that is worth when it comes to my writing is the fact that I do not always understand or accept what others say about my writing. What I mean…
I will not lie; my strengths when it comes to writing are few. The greatest strength so far has been topic choice. Even though my thesis may not be clear or in the correct format my topic has been strong. This positive feedback from the mentors and significant others has given me confidence and the desire to work on my weaknesses.…
I have learned that revising your writing makes it way better than before. You find your mistakes and realize you can replace words such as “bring to” to a different high vocabulary word such as “cease”. I know now that there is no way to make your paper perfect. There will always be a word, words, or sentence you could change. In addition, I’ve gained a better understanding on passive and active sentences. Once I was done writing my paper, and began to reread it I found some passive sentences. All I did was revise the sentence which helped my writing flow better. Initially, I read the first paper I wrote for the Quarter 1 Writing Assessment and I noticed that I didn’t follow the directions completely. As I read on, there were many simple sentences and not many transitional words.…
Writing can be a fun stress relief hobby/activity for many people including me. When it comes to writing essay and research papers I try to pick the most interesting topic that will best fit my interests. By having the opportunity of choosing what to write about it will allow me to organize the paper smoothly. My biggest strengths in writing is providing evidence, and giving credentials, and my biggest weakness in writing is writing my conclusion.…
After going to the Ashford Writing Center, I have decided that the writing skill that I would like to improve, first, is to have a better grasp of proper APA formatting. I believe that I am fairly proficient with explaining and writing my ideas. Since beginning classes at Ashford University, particularly EDU 304, I admit that my understanding of APA formatting needs clarified.…
In regards of the revision for the portfolio assignment, I chose to revise my critical autobiography. I chose to revise this document because I see it as one that offers a decent chance for improvement. With that being said, it was the first essay that I had ever written at the college level and during that time I found myself to still be writing at a high schools standards. I Feel I have improved greatly as a writer over the semester and revising this assignment would allow me to prove how much better of a writer I have become.…
Over the course of this year in English, I think my writing process has excelled the most along with my overall writing. In the past, I have used similar techniques to develop a final essay, but, this year, I have begin to rely more heavily on planning out and slowly chipping away at my essays and papers. I believe also that because of this planning the strength of my writing as a whole has grown. Personally, I do not think that I grew in my vocabulary usage. Overall this year, I grew as a writer in ways that I would not have predicted.…
In English 1A I am beginning to understand how to enjoy writing. One fatal flaw I previously had in my writing process was that I tried to write the near final draft the first time, it was a slow and tedious process, that made my despise writing. The tool I used to overcome this is freewriting- being able to just throw out hundreds of words in short amount of time with ease is such a relief when it comes to write an assignment like these. Plenty of my free write words don't ever make into my final paper, but just free writing with no limitations is actually fun. I recall how enjoyable it was to write for the genre paper. The genre paper did it feel like work and I managed to create many great ideas. Freewriting is also useful because the lack…
In school, we have been required to write many papers on many different subjects, some being timed and others not. Writing has never been something that has come easy to me, especially when put on the spot and told to write a paper in a certain amount of hours. When I write, I like to have time to think and plan my essay. Being able to revise and edit the paper makes it even better than it was before. When I am given the time to plan my essay, the writing has more depth than when I am put on the spot and have no time to think about what will go into my paper.…
Thinking of creative ways on how to develop my paper is a strong suit I benefit while taking on a writing assignment. When given a topic to write about, I write down what comes into my head. I do not worry about the word count if the sentences make sense on paper or even punctuation. I write to avoid forget any important points I might have thought of. This method of writing is where my weaknesses show. Sometimes what I wrote makes sense in my head, but not on paper. Other challenges I face with writing assignments are time management and punctuation.…
My writing has many flaws I have known that since I started writing. But out of all the problems that I have always had, the one that bothers me the most is that I know I am not producing the best work I can possibly get out. I have always been confident in my thoughts and ideas, but every time I starting writing them down they never seem to be able to go the way I want them to go.…
Writing has always been a way to express things in a way that is more creative and exploratory than just talking out loud. With words you can paint a picture better that Picasso could ever dream of. With flowing sentences that swiftly swallow the mind in an array of shrouded mystery that boggles most but the unknowing souls that know not what they know but who they know. With a well constructed array of words and of phrases that coherently make sense you can do wonders.…
As I sit here now writing this journal, I can’t help but feel how brilliantly ironic it is to write a whole journal on the topic of how I write. Besides that though, I guess I should begin. Writing, for me, has always been somewhat of a friend and a home. It’s been a companion through dark times, and a place I could go no matter how I was feeling. I have a deep love of the written word, and a great respect for anyone who puts pen to paper. (Or, in the new age of “handy-dandy” Chromebooks, anyone who puts keys to Google Docs.) That all being said, I have mixed feelings on how I view myself specifically. I think in my many years of jotting down random short stories and poetry, I have developed a strong grasp of all the traits of writing. On the other hand though, I definitely think there are still areas of my writing that could be improved.…
I always got good grades in English back in high school, but I was a student of the digital age so computers were always my backbone. They have document outlines for pretty much everything (essays, journals, letters etc.). Spelling and grammar check also play big roles in my writing today. I have to admit that if these tools were no longer available to me, and I had to depend on just paper and pen alone, I would have a rough time with my writing. As a matter of fact I used spelling and grammar check about ten times up to this point.…
