My Strengths And Weaknesses Of A Writer
How often should students evaluate themselves? It is vital to often evaluate oneself academically because as a student, there may be subjects that need improvement. In addition to learning the material, a student must be proficient at the skills required for a class. Therefore, it is crucial that I evaluate my strengths, my weaknesses, and how I aim to improve with the tools available. It is crucial that I evaluate my strengths as a writer, and one of my strengths is the ability to write a strong thesis. In my last paper it was indicated that my thesis was direct and short. In addition, it explained the main points of the paper and did not go into detail. A thesis is the most important part of any paper, because it is how to get the reader …show more content…
Another one of my strengths as a writer is that I can bring my papers to a quick and logical end. Writing a good conclusion is important because it lets the reader know that you have finished presenting your message. Conclusions should never end on a cliffhanger or introduce new idea; nor should a conclusion end with the word “the end.” Although, many writers have issues with transitioning from one concept to another. Such as, transitioning from a body paragraph to a conclusion. Transitions are crucial to assist with the flow of the paper. Therefore, without transitions the message would be choppy and disorganized. That is also one of my strengths, to use transitions to make my message flow in an organized manner throughout the paper.
Although, no one in perfect, and I do have a few weaknesses I still need to work on. One of my biggest weaknesses is I am not great at parallelism. A few times in my last I did not use this literary concept, when I should have. Another weakness of mine is that I need to improve my word choices in my papers. There are always words that can be substituted for better ones. A few words I used in my last paper were not college level and should have been replaced. Although, how do I plan using tools and resources available to me to improve upon my

A good thesis statement is a way to help guide your paper. The thesis statement provides an outline for how the writer will progress with the paper. A working thesis will guide your paper just as much and then after your paper is finished, you can go back and refine your thesis to strengthen it. I try to create a strong thesis statement, construct my paper, and then finalize by thesis based on my points. It tells the readers what to expect from the entire paper. On the other hand, poor thesis statement will do the opposite. It may leave your audience puzzled. It might also leave your readers not able to follow your thought process because they will not see the process of organization. I have found it difficult to make a strong thesis on your first try. This is how much emphasis should be put into the thesis statement as it could be considered the backbone of your paper.…

Truth be told, it’s been a few years since the last time I walked into a writing extensive course like English 1302. The last time that I sat in front of a computer, and slaved away for hours trying to create the perfect paper was in 2011, during my first semester at Texas Tech. It was English 101, and people had that it’s a class that I should not take lightly, but of course I thought I knew better. Let’s just say that I figured out, I was not the greatest writer in the world after all, but high school definitely made me think I was. Before I entered into my first semester of college level English, it was not unordinary for me to write a paper that received applause from teachers all the way through senior year. I wrote essays on books, such as the “The Great Gatsby” to critically breaking apart poems. One assignment that I remember vividly was my critical summary over Robert Frost’s Poem, “The Road Less Traveled”. Alas, those easy days are gone. Most of my time now is spent typing up emails to staff and teachers. Since I have been enrolled at Texas Tech, I have worked in Texas Tech’s School of Law in the Administrative Office. Much my work is behind a screen typing up emails. It has taught me a lot, so I feel as though I’ve become pretty proficient when it comes to writing up formal messages or relaying information in a professional way. I believe that I have a decent amount of experience when it comes to my writing abilities, and hopefully that will continue to grow throughout my time in this class.…

The quality of the thesis statement is outstanding as it is a complete sentence and makes a point without moving into the first person like I feel, In my opinion, and the rest. Furthermore, it conveys the topic clearly where the reader gets significant information about what ought to be discussed throughout the paper. Nevertheless, the thesis statement needs to outline something interesting that will make the reader salivate and have the urge to continue reading. That is, it needs to hold the attention of the reader throughout the reading process and challenge them to think.…

As a writer, I believe I have several strengths as well as challenges. Beginning with my strengths, I believe I have a passion for writing. When I write I make it easy to follow my train of thought from simple word selection to more complex thoughts. I also have my topics organized in a pattern designed for an easy flow from start to finish of what is written. While I strive to keep it simple, sometimes I have to get creative to capture and keep my readers attention. For my challenges, I believe my limited vocabulary may be a problem along with thoughts that do not convey any useful information. In order to improve my writing skills, I have to read, re-read, and re-read again to make sure I stick to the topic at hand.…

    Salt Water Intrusion

In this modern world we are faced with many different issues. Sometimes we forget that the majority of our earth is covered in oceans and freshwater. Almost two thirds of the world’s population lives within 250 miles of an ocean coastline. One of the many issues we are facing in our waters is saltwater intrusion and salinization. Saltwater intrusion and salinization is defined as the increase of chloride ion concentrations in freshwater aquifers or more simply put the movement of saline water into freshwater aquifers. When fresh water is withdrawn at a faster rate than it can be replenished, as a result the water table is drawn down. This also reduces the hydrostatic pressure. When this happens near an ocean coastal area, salt water from the ocean is pulled into the aquifer resulting in saltwater intrusion. This occurs more often along our coastlines, though there have been cases of this occurrence inland.…
