My Writing Process
Whenever I write a text, I mostly act upon impulse. Not much thought goes into the text because it does not have to be professional. I do make sure to take the time to check my grammar though, I don’t want my friends thinking I don’t know English very well. When I post something on social media, I spend a considerable amount of time planning the post. I make sure my thoughts are organized and I have the proper research. When I post on social media, anyone in the world can see it and I prefer that the post is exactly the way I want it.

When I am working on a research paper for school I make sure to go through the whole writing process. When I write the first draft, it could take me several hours for five pages. After I have written the page, I will go back through several times to revise and edit and

Being able to look at what you’re writing from a completely objective point of view allows you to critically judge your work and edit accordingly.

The stage of the writing process I spend the most time on would definitely be drafting. Drafting requires the most mental energy from me as it requires a lot of creativity. I spend the least time on revising because I am usually happy with what I have written while drafting. I do spend a lot more time revising when I am writing something for school or business.

I feel my biggest strength is generating ideas and that helps me draft ideas quickly. My writing does not improve much after revising, that is something I need to work on. I am very skilled with my native language, so editing is usually not a problem. I developed this strength because I paid attention during my english classes in school.

The writing process I struggle with is revising. When I go back through to edit my document I have a hard time revising because I usually like what I wrote on the first draft. I know I can improve on this because my writing skills are not what they could be

In elementary and middle school, we were all taught to write first drafts before writing our final copies. Teachers would tell us it is important to take the time to write and organize our thoughts and ideas before writing a final copy. I would never complete this step. I was usually one of the students that would spend my time writing to just get the writing done. Then, I would look over it quickly and correct only few parts. My “first draft” would usually end up being my final draft. I have never enjoyed writing and have never really liked my own writing. My writing was never the one talked about by teachers or ever given a good grade. I would never bother fixing my first draft because I never thought I could make it into a good quality paper. Lamott describes a brilliant writer sitting down and writing a polished piece of work in one sitting and then goes on to explain how that never happens. I found that really comforting because that is how I imagined many people writing. Now I know that is usually not how it happens. This made me realize that good writing just takes time. Some people might be better writers than others, but the way Lamott describes writing makes it seem that anyone can become good writer. I just need to take the time to write out my ideas to form an awful first draft that can later be revised into a “terrific” final…

    Shitty First Draft

    • 2 Pages

During the writing process, one first has to get his or her thoughts on paper. This paper is known as the first draft. When writing a first draft, the writer tends to wonder whether it is more important to get all of his thoughts down than it is to write it well. There is more than enough time to revise your paper so that it is concise and well-structured. Since thoughts come and go, it is important to get them down on paper as quickly as possible. According to Anne Lamott, the author of Shitty First Drafts, the process of writing a first draft is not rapturous. She states that the “only way I can get anything written at all is to write really, really shitty first drafts.” She later states that what a character says is not overly important…

I love writing rough drafts because I feel like I can pool all of my thoughts into one place. It’s a lot easier to write when you can see all of your thoughts in one place so that you can pick out all of the things that don’t fit or that don’t make sense. I now realize why teachers always made it an assignment to turn in a rough draft, they all wanted to see if we were able to pull a great paper out of a flood of ideas and facts. First drafts are a necessity to writing papers and it separates great papers from amazing…

Out of all the steps in my writing process, I believe prewriting was the most helpful. In prewriting you’re supposed to let your thoughts flow without stopping and making changes. So because I didn’t take the time to stress on proper grammar and more, I was able to start my first draft faster. Prewriting also helped me narrow what I wrote into groups, in this case the importance of rice in my family. Not only did prewriting help me narrow my writing into groups, but it also helped me, who was struggling, to find topics to talk about.…

My writing process is usually all over the place, I have to be in my room with my door shut, my music on, my fan on, and my television on, weird, I know, but that is what I have to do in order to keep myself concentrated. After I am all situated I begin by writing down different ideas on a couple sheets of paper, listing ways I could support this idea and how it relates to my topic, sometimes when I am stuck I look up sample essays online to help me out of my rut. Once I finally choose an idea I start writing the first things that pop into my head down on another sheet of paper, it usually ends up being a jumbled mess that only I can understand. After all of my ideas are laid out onto the paper I begin placing numbers beside them so I know…

My writing process all depends on what I am writing. Some writings I can sit down and write the whole things and be done with it, while others can take me multiple days or even weeks. I normally sit down and work on it until I finish, get tired of it, or a hit a roadblock. I try to stop when I feel like I am writing the same thing over and over or if I feel like I just need a break. Most of the time, if I feel like I am writing and it is really bad, it is because it is and I need to take a break and come back to it later. Working on it in pieces normally works well for me, to break it up and take it a little bit at a time. I normally struggle when I do not like what I am writing about or when I run out of information to put in my writing. I…

    My Writing Journey

The Writing Journey Revision is the act of revising, it is to correct, edit and redraft. When I begin to revise a paper, first I reread what I wrote then afterwards, I read it aloud, the human mind won’t necessarily point out the mistakes because the brain will correct what you read and implement it to what needs to be there. Depending on the topic or the importance of the paper, I’ll ask around for help, or sometimes I would ask a friend to edit my paper to point out my mistakes and learn from them. Ever since 8th grade I pushed myself to convert to an improved writer through the art of literature.…

This year I finalized my writing process and how I choose to go about writing my works. I focused on a number of Composition and Writing Process pieces in my portfolio. In the past, I was used to writing rough drafts for all my final papers and only occasionally would I write an outline for them as well. As shown mainly through the Cultural Identity process, the slower and more thorough of a process I take with my writing, the better it will be. Similarly, the rough draft I wrote for my persuasive essay showed multiple errors and places that need to be fixed and patched up in order to improve the strength of my message. For a good majority of the papers I wrote this year, I wrote an outline and a rough draft that was revised at least once. I believe that I have become accustom to a writing…

The key topic I have learned that plays a huge role in the writing process is confidence. When writers are confident about their piece and they really love the way it has turned out, then it shows through the entire paper. I always tell my dance students that if they show the audience how much they love dancing, then more people will want to watch them. And I think the same goes for…

This semester, this class has thrown up all these thoughts and I believe all thought is fuel for writing. Therefore, the more fuel, the more writing, and hopefully the better the writing. Routine practice of any skill is supposed to build muscle memory, perhaps increased mechanical speed from so much typing results in thoughts and ideas hitting the page in a less filtered more genuine way. Is the first thought the best? Probably not, but it is a launch…
