We had about a half hour drive to the rental shop for my dad and I to get rental skis. My sister already had skis because she races for the school Nordic team. Once we had gotten our skis, we started driving to the trailhead and my dad and I slowly began to re-think ourselves. We got to the trailhead, put on our skis, and after about 20 minutes of skiing around what we thought was a short loop, we got a bit concerned. We knew that …show more content…
You may not think that this is such a big deal but when you have no clue where you are going, it's 5 below, it’s snowing heavily, and the sun is setting, seeing other human life is a good thing. Anyways, we talk to her because she is skiing fast enough we thought that she must know where she is going. But she doesn’t. Next thing we know we are at a T in the trail and have absolutely no clue which way to go. So we go to the right, and yep you guessed it, that was the wrong way. After about 25-30 minutes of skiing, we hit a sign that says “wrong way do not continue.” So we turned around. Thirty minutes later once we got back to the T, it was the first time the entire day that we knew which way to go. The other …show more content…
BAD CHOICE. After about 20 strides, I see some large mysterious paw prints (possibly mountain lion) in the snow. A few strides later, we see some fresh squirrel meat and all of us made the executive decision to go the other direction. Probably the fastest few hundred meters I had skied the entire day.
All of a sudden, our phones started to ring very loudly and when we answered, it was my mom, cousin, and aunt all calling from the cabin to see if we were ok. We said that we were fine and that we had just taken a longer trail than we had liked. But in reality, all of us wanted to just sleep. We continued on and at one point could see the highway about 2 miles out and just down a very steep cliff. The trail was running along the road so we figured they would meet at some point. So we just kept skiing.
Then we had noticed some freshly groomed trail, which makes it so much easier to ski. We knew that if the groomer started grooming after it snowed, it would have only gone a short distance out and back. So all of our faces just lit up with happiness. We had all started skiing a bit faster although my mom thought it was a good idea to call us every five minutes, which was actually just about the most annoying part of the entire day because I would have to stop, take off my gloves, grab my phone and answer. This happened all the time. Best part of the entire day,
