Personal Narrative: My First Trip To The Rocky Mountains
My First Trip to the Rockies

My first trip the rocky mountains in colorado was amazing.
I had so much fun!

It all started when a few days before summer break began last year when I overheard my step-dad and uncle talking about a hiking trip in Colorado that we were going to take sometime in the month of early July. So I just let it be and was going to see and find out if I was going to go along with them. long story short, I got a really, really early Christmas present from my mom and step-dad. A hiking trip to the Rocky Mountains!

I couldn’t believe that they actually were going to bring me on a trip to the Rockies!!!
It ends up that it was going to be a man trip, so I was going with my Uncle Nick, My Step-Dad Jeremy, a guy from my dad’s

It was crazy to start the hike with green grass but end up in snow and freezing rain and mud. On one part of trail we were hiking and fell into the icy cold river. We had to peel our boots, socks and pants and put our thermal gear on. Of course this brought on more rain. We sprinted down a large mountain while freezing cold with no boots or socks on. Everyone was miserable. We finally made it to our campsite, where we started a fire and listened to bugling Elk while staring at the stars. We woke up the next morning to three large Mule Deer looking into our tent.

The best reward to hiking was always the food. We made time to eat at Dave’s BBQ, which was fantastic. I had pulled pork, french fries and sweet tea. The pork melted in my mouth. The funniest part was none of us had showered in more than 4 days. I’m sure we smelled like Wombats. Others eating that night were staring and scrunched their noses at us. It was obvious we were the only ones coming off a trail.

This is my favorite memory because of everything I saw and experienced. I laughed alot at the guys that were on the trip. I would just sit by the campfire at night and take everything in. It’s hard to explain, because it’s something that you have to experience for yourself. I’ll never forget the giant snow drifts, the clear starry skies and the Elk

Over the 12 day hike, we climbed numerous mountains through different terrains, saw different animals both dead and alive and learned so much about nature and conservation. We met so many fellow scouts and adults from all over the country and other countries, which was a great learning experience. I participated in games and activities like throwing tomahawk, Fly Fishing, Archery, Muzzle Loading Rifles, enjoyed the Sweat Lodge, visited some famous sites like the pioneer Kit Carson’s home along the Santa Fe Trail, helped the staff at Carson Meadows with a search and rescue mission, learned how to homestead at Crooked Creek, enjoyed mountain living, visited the wreckage of a B24 bomber that crashed while on a training mission in 1942 that can only be seen by hiking all the way to the top of the mountain, ate a chuck wagon dinner, enjoyed a cowboy campfire, visited the Continental Tie and Lumber Company at Crater Lake and worked on a trail construction project with the Conservation Department. All this was a memorable experience that I will cherish…

Every couple times a year my family and I go up north because my brother goes to college at Michigan Tech. This summer we went there again because my brother, Eric, had to go back to school. So, we decided to go up north and rent a cabin by the water, and spend a week with my brother up there. Then, drop him off at his school. One of the most memorable things we did there was hiking up a waterfall at Crystal Falls.…

Waiting in line for the chairlift at Hidden Valley Ski Resort, I was freezing and could hardly feel my toes. The snow was falling so heavily that I could barely see the people at the front of the line. My brother was standing next to me and we were talking about what slope we wanted to ride first. There were the easy green trails that were for the beginners but we had been skiing for many years and decided to start the day with the most fearsome of all the slopes, the double black diamond!…

While there we also visited my grandpa who lived on a ranch where it rained avocadoes. Gates that had grown green and fluffy moss at the corners opened up. I saw two monster, bright, neon green four wheelers. My heart beating and being the daredevil of my siblings I was jumping with excitement! Once we were all settled two of my older cousins decided to start the four wheelers up. As I heard the engines roar to life my cousins hollered who wanted a ride. The rest of my cousins beat me to the line and I was last. Standing there impatiently waiting and watching as they sped off into the trees and not returning for about twenty minutes each. The anticipation was killing me! While kicking dirt around I heard the engine coming from a distance, Finally my turn! To my luck my cousins were tired and hopped off the motors. My excitement crushed instantly. My dad came to the rescue and told me he would take me. Excitement…

My first trip to Muir Woods National Park happened on Thanksgiving Day in 2009. My roommate and I had just moved to San Francisco in March of that year and this was our first Thanksgiving there. My younger sister had flown out from Minnesota to spend the holiday with me, and we all agreed that it might be fun to drive up to Muir Woods since none of us had been there yet.…

Now I was going to get to be one of those people. I looked at the map my dad gave to me of the parkway and noticed that there were many pull-offs that held trails, waterfalls, campgrounds, and picnic areas. I was so curious that I quickly asked my dad if we could go to them. He enthusiastically agreed. We hiked multiple scenic trails across the Blue Ridge Mountains. The experience gave me a closer look at the beautiful mountain wilderness. Most importantly the experience gave me the time of my life and an unforgettable experience. I now have a new outlook and a fresh perspective. I was able to see what made this place a national treasure and why my dad loved it so much.…

The next morning we got the quads going and ready to go up to the store for some supplies that we needed. At the store we got my license for fishing and so as my moms. We also got some food to last us the weekend and some fishing bait too. When we got back to the trailer we made breakfast, got dressed and just situated everything in the trailer and cabin so that it’s all ready for our stay. We got the poles and bait we got from the store and then headed for Lake Navajo. On the ride to there it was really bumpy but the scenery was great, there were a lot of trees and wild flowers to look at. At the end of the day we caught 4 fish, I caught two and my mom’s boy friend caught two. At home we skinned and prepared the fish for tomorrow. While we were doing that my mom got the grill going and ready for us to cook some meat. We ate hamburgers, cole-slaw, steak and corn at dinner. We all took showers and got dressed for bed. After we all took showers we made a fire, roasted marsh-mellows and then went to bed.…

The car stopped, but I was still day dreaming and didn’t notice until my sister slammed the car door. When I got out of the car I was immediately in awe of how nice the cabin was that we were staying at. I pushed my sister out of the way and quickly ran to go find the best room in the house. After I got all of my luggage in the room, I looked out the window and saw that the cabin was directly on one of the ski runs. This meant that I could go out the back door and be on the slopes. No walking, no lines, and no carrying my gear from the parking lot to the mountain. Once everyone got situated we put on our snow jackets, pants, gloves, and boots, then hit the slopes. The snow was powdery and perfect; I glided down the mountain effortlessly like I was floating on a cloud. This was the first time I had ever snowboarded on such good snow and couldn’t wait to see the rest of the mountain.…

The best memorable food experience that I have would be the time that I went to Fuddruckers with my mom, dad, both of my grandmothers and my two brothers. The reason why I say this is because this place was very nice and had the best burgers and sandwiches, so I have heard. As I was walking in the restaurant I started looking at the menu and there was something that had caught my eyes, and that was the grilled chicken breast with smokehouse bacon, and Swiss cheese sandwich. This sandwich had caught my eyes because it looked so good and juicy.…
