It was a normal day when Falsca was walking to school. When she got home, she took a shower, and her hair fell off. She shrieked.
Maya came to look. Falsca trembled, “Do you think I have cancer?”
They went to the doctor, and he examined Falsca’s body. The doctor spoke softly, “You have been diagnosed with cancer.” He put his head down.
Maya was speechless. Could her sister die? Will this be one of the last times she would see her sister? It seemed as if Maya knew her sister were going to die. Was she right? Will it happen? Nothing was normal anymore now that she knew her sister had been diagnosed with cancer.
When she went home, Maya checked what her sister was doing because she hadn’t gone to school. She was lying down on …show more content…
her bed. Her eyes were closed. She woke her up immediately, not trusting whether she was asleep or dead.
Falsca woke up, and she hugged her Maya. She said to her sister, “If I die, will you still remember me?”
This left Maya speechless. She sighed. “Of course I will.”
Another day without her sister, another day lost to save her sister’s life. She thought it was physically impossible, but she thought it was worth a try.
When she was walking to her room, from the corner of her eye she saw her sister breathing heavily.
Once again, they took her to the doctor. Maya was so ashamed that she had never told her parents about Falsca being diagnosed with cancer. She was going to tell her parents when she got home, but they were so happy. It was Falsca’s birthday, and they had brought Falsca a treat.
But Falsca refused the treat and told her parents about her food restrictions due to cancer. This wiped the smile off their faces.
Maya shamefully told her parents, “Falsca was diagnosed with cancer, and I didn’t tell you.”
Her mother’s anger gathered upon Maya. “Why didn’t you tell me? We could have done something about it.”
Months flew by. Falsca seemed to get worse, but Maya couldn’t do anything. She finally stopped worrying about her sister. She went home and saw her sister looked dead, but she thought she was sleeping. She tried to wake her up, not believing she was dead. Falsca still didn’t wake up. That was when Maya started to panic. She checked Falsca’s heartbeat; there was no movement. She tried to call her parents; there was no response.
On the day of Falsca’s funeral, her parents had good news. They were having another baby. Maya was happy, but she knew that no one would replace her dear sister,
Falsca.
