The four pillars of the NHS are scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. I am proud to say that these are exemplified in my life through my challenging course load and experiences. Throughout my years as a student, the experiences and challenges that life has thrown at me have built me into who I am today. Before I started my high school career, I was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. I started taking AP classes as early as my freshman year, and have only taken more since then. My enrollment into the Gifted program has given me opportunities to expand on my intellectual growth, including the Biology Olympiad and American Math Competition. I am a firm believer that in order to best choose what to do with your life, you must first know who you are in life. Self-awareness can help create a happy, balanced, and fulfilled existence on a personal and professional level. This can equate to success on both sides of the spectrum. HCS/449, Health Care Capstone has helped me understand this statistic more clearly and it will be etched in my psyche for years to come. I will aim to expand on this knowledge of self and how I may effectively convey it to the world around me; specifically the world of health care on a management level. I am a: hard worker, high performer, fast past learner, self-starter, team player, and work well under pressure. I am a motivator by choice and possess keen communication skills. I was lastly employed in the health care industry in 2010, to pursuit a BSHA and will return to the industry as a more valuable asset. My extreme passion is sometimes misread as aggression and I am strategically learning to control my passion to fit my environment. The objective of this essay is to answer: what my professional goals are, what job I plan to have in the health care sector, what skills I currently have for this job, which skills I need to change or alter, my plan for ultimately achieving my professional goals, what professional organizations can help me achieve these goals, and what benefit does the career action plan outline?…

I’m part of NHS at Woonsocket High School. In order to stay in NHS, I have to maintain a 90 average or above and take part in after school activities. I’ve received a lot of school work over the years at WHS. It was really stressful, but it has taught me a lot. The school work has taught me how to manage my time better. It made me more responsible, and use my time better, rather than playing video games all the time. Also it has taught me one important thing about life. Life goes on. You can’t expect to good in every single thing you do, sometimes you just have to push on. When times get rough, just push through…

I observed different kinds of childbirths and pregnancies. One particular birth stood out to me where the lady was homeless after suffering from domestic abuse. I was able to see the empathetic and professional way midwives have to deal with those situations. By keeping calm I was able to communicate with the women and calculate the dynamics of the situation, doing simple jobs like offering water and assisting the midwives with medicines. In a place that was an unfamiliar environment for me I feel I was able to adapt and fit well into the team. Another circumstance where I showed the NHS values was whilst volunteering in Sri Lanka, working with underprivileged children and teenagers teaching them dance, arts, and crafts. At times it was difficult to communicate with them as they spoke little English, however, through the use of hand signals and my own body language I built relationships with them that I will never forget. I feel this demonstrates by ability to make strong connections with a wide range of people which will help when supporting the mothers. I also went on World Challenge, trekking across Iceland, which I funded myself. My role within the team was to lead them on trails through the mountains, where I was able to express my good sense of leadership. All these experiences have strengthened my resolve to become a…
