The name ‘’Oklahoma’’ derives from the Choctaw words: ‘’okla’’ meaning people and ‘’humma’’ meaning red, so the state´s name means ‘’ red people’’. In Oklahoma live prox. 3.600.000 people. Oklahoma is also known as The Sooner State. The capital of Oklahoma is Oklahoma City which is also the biggest city. The state has an area of prox. 70.000 sq miles. Oklahoma is the 46th state of the USA.
The state has the second largest American Indian population of all states. Today in Oklahoma live more than 25 different tribes.

Oklahoma has lots of forests. Oklahoma is wealth because of the wood and the oil industry. In Oklahoma are lots of Tornados and the weather changes often from cold to warm and from sunny to rainy. History
The recorded history began when a Spanish explorer Coronado walked through the area. Oklahoma was part of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. In 1803 the government of the USA wouldn’t take Oklahoma in the ranks of the states and gave the land to the Indians. Until 1884 Oklahoma was the territory of the Indians. Because the land was very fruitful lots of white men come to Oklahoma. Finally in 1907 Oklahoma became the 46th state of the USA.

The most famous sight in Oklahoma is the Route 66. It runs from Chicago to LA including 400 miles through Oklahoma.
