Environmental factors would show that the different conditions can induce or change a behavior in a child. One of the strongest psychologists in the nature vs. nurture debate, John Watson, claims that he is capable to train a random infant to become any specialist that he wanted. This completely disregards any future talents or the race of the infant. Certain genetic factors may create a predisposition for a particular illness, but the probability that a person develops that illness depends in part on environment. A genetic variant can indicated the possibility of development of a mental illness, and this information could be used to direct positive behavior so that the condition might not even develop or develop with less severity. One successful neuroscientist, James Fallon, claims that growing up in a nurturing and loving environment led him to be as successful as he is. He also says that, that certain type of environment prevented him from completely developing the traits of a psychopath. Just like with addiction, it is thought to be that it is not completely genetic, but in fact is influenced on different environment aspects like habits of parents, friends, or a …show more content…
The coding of genes in each cell in humans determines the different traits that we have. The traits in specific are eye color, hair color, ear size, height, and many other traits. Now it is still unknown whether or not personality, intelligence, sexual orientation, likes and dislikes are gene-coded into our DNA too. Genetics have been proven to be an important factor in the development of a small amount of mental health conditions, like schizophrenia, bipolar, and major depression. For example, bipolar is four to six times more likely to develop when there is a family history of the condition (Nature vs. Nurture.). Researchers consider nature takes more effect in addictions than nurture. With alcohol addiction it can reoccur in families and that sometimes certain genes have an influence over the way alcohol tastes, and the way it affects the
