Necrotizing Facsiitis
Necrotizing Fasciitis Necrotizing fasciitis is a bacterial infection that attacks the soft tissue and the fascia. It is commonly known as the “flesh-eating bacteria”. The term flesh- eating bacteria is not really the word for the disease, as the bacteria does not actually eat the tissue. It also progresses very quickly, greater risk of developing in immunocompromised patients due to conditions such as diabetes and cancer. As the bacterial can be developed in many ways, after abdominal surgery, tiny scratch, C-section, simple cut, or rash, to even a simple blood draw. To get the bacteria it must be introduced into the body, by either direct contact with a person carrying the bacteria or because that person is carrying the bacteria themselves. Necrotizing fasciitis is most common with a minor trauma like a Group A strep infection. Group A strep is a toxic shock syndrome. The bacteria comes from respiratory droplets or direct contact with secretions of someone with Strep A. The bacteria causes decay of tissue and causes the body to go into toxic shock. It may result in respiratory failure, heart failure, hypotension, and renal failure. Basically necrotizing fasciitis causes every system of the body to fail as a result of the severe infection and toxicity of the system. Some of the signs and symptoms of necrotizing fasciitis are a trauma of some type, cut or bruise.
They feel an annoying discomfort in the area of infection. The pain gets worse and area tenderer. Flu like symptoms occur, one has muscle pain, fever, weakness, and vomiting. The tissue is swollen and possible redness. Feels hot to the touch. The condition will continue to worsen. The person has less output in urination. The blood pressure drops and heartbeat becomes rapid. A rash similar to a sunburn will appear over the entire body, due to the release of toxins. Dark boil-like blisters can form in the affected area and the body’s organs can shut down due to toxic shock. The early symptoms are

The wounds are incised and drained. The incisions are made parallel through the discoloured skin down to the fascia parallel to the cutaneous nerves and blood vessels. In necrotising fasciitis the grey necrotic fascia is identified and confirmed by the ease of blunt dissection. The tissue is excised for frozen sections or definitive histology and…

Some children may be too young or may not be physically able to tell you when they need medical attention due to a disability. Often children and young people can become seriously ill very suddenly which means that as a member of staff you should be alert to any changes in their behaviour which could indicate pain or nausea. When a child becomes sick or lets you know that they feel unwell, you will need to sufficiently look after them until their parent or a carer arrives to collect them. In life threatening situations the emergency services should always be contacted straight away. An example of this would be if a child had any of the following signs of acute illness.…

What once was considered an incurable condition, osteomyelitis is inflammation of bone, bone marrow, and the soft tissue surrounding the bone caused by infection. The infection can start in the bone by spreading from nearby tissue or traveling through the bloodstream. This infection can also develop in the bone itself if the bone is exposed to germs in any way. Osteomyelitis can be classified as chronic or acute and the treatment for both depends on many factors (“Osteomyelitis”, 2014).…
