Since the day we are born, we are labeled between two different genders. We are expected to act and be like the gender we are born as. At a young age there are types a clothing girls are expected to wear. Being a young woman, I tend to notice the pressure there is on young girls from our society so enhance their beauty. There is a specific expectation set for young girls in which seems that they are required to meet. Some of these requirements are causing for all women, even young girls, to not feel pleased with themselves and have doubts about their appearance. This is a belief in which young women think it is more important to be sexually active and earn lower grades in school compared to their peers. This is a crazy idea to think that young girls at such a young age are already worried about sexualization. When reading the article, “Report Finds Sexulazation Harms Girls”, there were many similarities stated as read in “Sexualized Body Image Has Negative Effect on Young Adolescent Girls”. In the article their definition of sexualization was as someone whose value comes from their sexual appeal or behavior. It was stated how a person who is sexualized is sexually objectified and is not seen as a person who is capable of their own independent action and decision making. Young girls should be able to feel as they can contribute more to our society than just their looks. They should feel as if their opinion matters. Self-objectification was talked about in the article and it was described as a process in which girls learn to treat their bodies and think of their bodies as objects in order to please others. There was a study explained in the article about a young girls in whom are given the option to take a math test in either a sweater or a swim suit. The young girls who picked to wear the swimming suit were proven to score lower than those who picked the sweater. When the same study was done with men and they were given the same option there seemed to be no difference in their scores when wearing either garment. This study concluded the influence objectification and sexulization can play in a girl’s mind. It undermines confidence in oneself, it causes discomfort in one's own body, shame, disgust, and even anxiety.
