Negative Thoughts on Social Media
(NOT FINISHED YET!)

I think that people should spend less time on social media and go outside, because they can get addicted very easily.

Some, die, over, media

Rough Draft-
I think that social media is not all important. People are spending more time on it then hanging out with friends. Friends should be more important. For some people, social media is taking over their lives. They should focus on more important things and not spend so much money on it. In the end, it’s not important.

Instead of being inside on their media, they should go outside and get some fresh air and hang out their instead. Social media is starting to distract people from the outside world. Staying inside all day is not healthy for you. The average person spends more than five hours on their media daily. After all that time, people get stressed or mad that someone might have said something about them and they need fresh air.

The world is starting to get addicted to media and it’s spreading to other countries. Status updates are a big part of it. All people do is post a status of what they’re doing all day long. Altogether, people are spending way too much time on it. It’s a huge part of people’s lives and they’re losing the ability to interact with people in person.

Social media makes us more aware about what is going on in our own society and in other countries, without social media sites like “youtube, facebook” etc, many of us would not even know about the Malaysian jet line that went missing over a month ago. As of January 2014, 74% of online adults were social media users. When social media began in the late 1970s with Bulletin Board System, a program designed to allow users to download files, games, and post messages to other users through telephone lines via a modem, not many were prepared for the effect it would have on the world 30 years later. As social media progressed through AOL (1990s), MySpace (2000s), and now onto Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, social media has continued to become a larger part of more and more people’s lives. A role that is now so large that many argue social media has become more of a curse than a blessing, and has poisoned communication, in person and over the Internet. But, social media helps protection services and law enforcement, assists people trying to stay up to date with the news, and allows people to stay connected with current and past friends.…

    Paradox Of Gratification

Social Media is like a paradox of gratification and feeling like something is being accomplished when it really isn’t. The social media outlet Facebook is used to say “it feels like you’re doing something and you’re not doing anything. It’s the absence of doing something, but you feel gratified anyway.” The world we live in today lives for instant gratification and getting things right away and having fun a hundred percent of the time without working and that’s what social media is feeding into. It is giving people, especially children, the sense that they are important and that they’re doing something with their lives when really, they are wasting time when they could be doing something productive such as their homework. So many people are stuck in the paradox and it is extremely hard to get out because the more people switch tasks and look for instant gratification, their attention span will only get…

Social media has definitely made it easy to stay connected with friends. I am the type of person who likes to be there in person with people to get actual face time with people. I like to be around people, travel, and communicate in person. So social media is definitely a compliment of staying connected. But it is not a replacement. You cannot give your friend a hug, or actually, kiss your lover on the cheek on social media. But it is a great way to keep continuity in relationships that are long distance, like with friends whom I’ve met at basic training a couple years back. I still stay in touch with a couple of them.…

“Americans aged 18-64 who use social networks say they spend an average of 3.2 hours per day doing so, according to new research released by Ipsos Open Thinking Exchange (OTX).” 3.2 hours is more than one may think. Social media does nothing but help people become “social”. Sure, any person can catch up on the latest drama, find out who just announced their pregnant, or wish their great great great grandma happy birthday, but in reality social media is a waste of time to everyone in the world. And the addiction is hard to overcome once a person has started. Almost 1,200 hours on a social networking website is a lot of time someone could be using more wisely yet no one seems to try to change this hair-raising…

When was the last time you checked Facebook? Have you tweeted anything today? Research has found that 72% of online adults use social networking sites. Think about it. That's almost three-fourths of all Internet users. Social networking can range from posting photos on Facebook to tweeting a little daily thought on Twitter. Social networks were originally created to stay in touch with people not often seen or to reconnect with old friends. Despite the fact that some people still use social networks for its original purposes, others have developed problems because of them. Moreover, social networks are distractions to people's everyday lives and allows them to get into the habit of not having real-life conversations.…

In today’s society, billions of people across the world are accessing the internet multiple times a day. Why wouldn’t they? Many people have the internet on their smart phones, and at the touch of a button can check their email, their Twitter, their Facebook, their bank account balance, you name it. Any social networking site or application, actually, whether it be Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Youtube or something similar, it seems to easily suck up hours of a person’s day. Teens and children are accessing these sites while at school, and as soon as they get home from school. Adults are accessing these sites while at work and are often choosing to spend time checking their “walls” or profiles rather than spending time with their loved ones. There is no doubt that there are certain social benefits to these sites, many people say we need them to keep in touch with friends. However, the benefits do not outweigh the problems they cause. Social networking causes children and adults to be lazy and overweight, less productive at school and work, distracted, and, ironically, causes them to be anti-“social.” For these reasons, social networking is bad for society and should not be used.…

In todays society it seems as if everybody is connected to social media somehow, especially us college students and young adults. It’s a way for us to connect with friends far away or even nearby. The thing is, social media is destroying young adults mentally and physically because it’s disconnecting them from the physical world. Texting, emailing, tweeting, and facebooking have become the preferred forms of communication for many young adults in the past 10 years and shows no signs of slowing down. We’re now in a society where interacting online has become the social norm. You’re probably more likely to speak to friends and family through electronic devices…

Many teenagers love social media because of its wide connectivity and function that people can receive it for free; it does not require money to make an account and use it. Facebook is the most visible among various social media. What’s impressive about this site is that you can easily connect with your long lost friends and see how they’re doing, or vice versa. You can also make new friends in Facebook. Though this could get addictive and may divert our attention away from the real world. Like what Cornell University’s Steven Strogatz said; “Social media sites can make it more difficult for us to distinguish between meaningful relationships we foster in the real world, and the numerous casual relationships formed through social media.” I strongly agree with this statement. Also, people become a whole new person, because it’s the Internet. People can be anything or anyone in the Internet.…
