However, there is some level of overlap. For instance, the conservatives believed that governments should come to the aid of others who cannot help themselves. The neoconservatives today believe that the capitalist and democratic model is the best one and therefore countries that are failing or struggling economically need assistance in moving towards the model, whether they want it or not. The neoliberals seek freedom of competition on a global level that has little government oversight, essentially sink or swim. This is parallel to the ideas put forth by the liberals of the 19th century. Therefore, there is evidence that these beliefs can be applied globally.
Personally, I tend to lean towards the conservative view that was present in the 19th century, but the neoliberal position in the modern world. This is because of the key difference between then and now, globalization. While domestically, I would support the conservatives in their view of government regulation for the welfare of the people, I believe that internationally, it is better to allow the liberal and capitalistic models form through increased economic interaction than through
