Salamon, Anheier, and List defined pillarization as a society divided into many ‘pillars’ These pillars can be further divided into environmental, political and philanthropic factors that can affect how organizations are being led. To understand how the political climate and public health play a future role in the fruition of the nonprofit industry in Amsterdam, we must first look at the major components that make up such a diverse and philanthropic society. The fact that the Netherlands is part of the European Union and by extension have a joint non-governmental equity with them is pivotal to how policy is implemented and shaped in their society. For example, The UK referendum occurred that possibly allowed for Britain to possibly depart from the European Union. This established major problems of the Dutch because the United Kingdom was a major trading partner with them which would hinder the amount of income and goods that are coming which would by correlation affect how the budget is made and which programs/charities are more important to funded and taxed. The hindered trading can also allow for more nonprofits to be created as need because of the government failure to ensure that programs are put in place for the citizens. Accordingly, with current changes with the ‘withdrawal’ of the United Kingdom from the European Union there also ushered in the political and societal ideals from certain political groups. One major group and politician the recently came forth was that of Geert Wilders and his Party for Freedom. The focus of this new political party is to ban or make it harder for any Muslim refugees to come to the Netherlands and ban any religious texts such as the Koran from being sold as well. These poses a major problem because one of the major nonprofit sector in Amsterdam’s deal strictly with refugees and garnering support for said refugees. Many of the people are creating their or establishing their own independent sectors to help combat the government and societal failures.
