I think being run on a "for-profit" basis could be a good idea. It could provide motivation for the prisoners and I don't see how that's a bad thing. It could also provide a sense of morality where if you work well and play nice you're rewarded. I feel it gives them a chance to prove something to not only others but to…
Growing up my mom has always encouraged my siblings and I to continue our education to as far as college. My mother never really got the chance to attend college because her family could not afford to put all their kids in school. She had seven siblings and an extra bill for school was not something her parents were able to afford. I consider myself really lucky to be alive in a time where there are so many opportunities to be able to afford college. If it were not for scholarships and financial aid, my mother’s story would be repeated once again. Through financial aid, the door for a college career is opened for me and I’m willing to enter it. My biggest motivator to push myself academically has been my…
I know I am not the only person that has had a hard time getting into school, or understanding how. Now that I’m in it, I feel lots better but of course it has been a very hard time coming from a 9-5 job and then straight to another job to pay the bills. First off, I learned that it is not free. No matter how many ads and people I had spoken to telling me “oh yeah, school is free”. It certainly has not been for me at least. I had a few small grants but nothing that was enough to help out with my living costs/ tuition/ books, thus leaving me to the device of taking out student loans. Since then I have been seeking scholarships but have not had the greatest luck. With this information that I have provided, I have now taken one loan out and this is my first loan. I still work two jobs picking up shifts at a bar on a weekend and receiving a student loan. I shouldn’t have to take a loan out that I am going to pay back years from now. I am having to work two jobs and do two classes a semester which to get to any or the degree that I want, will take years thus leaving me with a huge amount of debt I owe. Now, I am still lost just finding my own balance of work and…
I currently work full time as a Healthcare Recruiter while attending school as a Full Time Virtual College student. In addition, I take care of my adult sister who is chronically sick and has been unemployed for almost 2 years. I am unfortunate to be in a place where I can be of assistance to my sister and take care of her finanically more than 50% of the time. However, returning to school full time and paying for the cost of attendance while taking care of another adult has created a lot of financial hardship and stress.…
Due to the recent economic crisis, America is experiencing a recession that is slow to recover. Because of the recession, the jobless rate has reached a 10.1 percent high (Chandra, 2011). I unfortunately am one of those workers whom were laid off. Therefore, I am taking this time now to focus on attending school full-time and getting a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. I currently receive unemployment which means that my income has been reduced almost to half as when I was working. With my faith and trust in God I have been able to sustain my lifestyle with some minor adjustments to my spending habits. Now that I am on a more restricted income, my daily tasks include only things I need to do in order to control spending costs. On a weekday daily basis my schedule consists of going to the gym. That is pretty much…
At the start of spring semester my freshman year I had an outstanding balance with my home institution. This balance caused me a lot of stress and the time that I should’ve spending study was instead being spent on worrying on thoughts of how I might not be able to return in the fall. Fortunately with the money I earned through my internship that summer I was able to bring my remaining balance down low enough for me to enroll for classes. However in order to not put myself in that position I took on numerous jobs on campus, spreading myself too thin and not leaving enough space for my studies. After talking with my professors and getting their advice I was able to manage being both a full time student and working the hours of a full time employee.…
Work and college can you do it. Yes, working in college is a must. There are many things you will get out of working while in college. Things other than just money, don’t get me wrong everyone loves money, who doesn't it's nice to have money in college. There are other things you will get from working in college, for example references, experience in your career field, life lessons, and even pay back school loans before they swallow you whole. These are only a few examples. I believe working while in college is one of the most important things you can do, in doing so you have given yourself a jump start on all the non-working students. To start off with, having extra money in college is very helpful you can even pay of your loans.…
The cost of a university education has increased 12-fold in the past three decades. Most students pay for college with a combination of family, work, grants, scholarships, and loans. Few students have families who can pay for their education entirely. To pay for college, a student needs to work more than 48 hours a week on minimum-wage. Add that to the time needed to be successful with a full load of classes, and simply working your way through college today is impossible. Even a maximum federal Pell Grant only covers the cost of attending a community college, it leaves a large deficit on the bill for a university’s tuition. Everyone is competing…
Past choices have now hindered me from receiving financial aid. I have had a full time job for 8 years. This allowed me to help financially within my house hold. I helped my younger sister financially graduate from a 4 year college. Although education has always been important for me I it was difficult to maintain a full time job, go to school, and help with college tuition. Now that she has graduated I am very excited about the opportunity to advance my own education without roadblocks or setbacks. I plan on cutting down my work week to no more than 25 hours. If I were to receive financial aid the cutbacks in hours would not make such a burden on me financially.…
When a student becomes employed, they can save the money that they earned, which can benefit for their future education. To further explain, the interview “ Paying for College without Loans, Scholarships or Looting your Parents’ Retirement” by Steinburg, Jacques and Mr. Zac Bissonnette tells the reader how “ Saves $6 per hour of that throughout high school will have 24,960 in savings,”(Bissonette 13). This proves to show that just with saving a little bit of money, can help the student pay off college easily. Others may argue that working during high school can distract a student from their work, but the same article leads a different direction with that statement. For example, it states how “college student who were employed...higher average GPA (2.72) than those who werent working,” (Bissonette 13).The statistics clearly show that when a student works during school it motivates them try harder at school. Overall, working while being in high school allows the student to not be in such a high…

Starting a Non Profit Organization that provides filtered water for people in need requires an extraordinary of time and understanding. Maybe more than in some other type of try, the initial step to beginning a charitable association is to paint your vision with the goal that others can see what you are looking to fulfill and comprehend why it makes a difference.…
My current interest is continuing my education within Riverside Community College. As of right now, I am the first person within my family to obtain an Associates Degree. My responsibilities are working full-time to provide for my wife and my six year old daughter. I currently work fulltime within the Los Angeles County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. This is a demanding job, which offers few working breaks. At the same time, I attend Riverside Community College as a part-time student. My class schedules usually goes from 6pm-9pm, depending on the type of course I’m taking. After work and school, I go home to a beautiful six-year-old girl who is exceling within her school work. I usually spend the weekends studying with my daughter. During the weekends I usually help my daughter work on her school work, while I’m working on my assignments from Riverside Community College. I can honestly say my daughter’s academic success is my biggest…
