Upon the career choices and positions in the NeuroJob center, the Academic Psychiatrist Faculty Position was an interesting position of my choice. Within the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Science, the position provides academic services to autistic children and adults and other individuals with neurodevelopment disorders. This career path interest me because it gives me the opportunity to teach, mentor, and provide clinical care in an outpatient setting. I have the skills of teaching and mentoring that would help within this position (NeuroJob Career Center).

Some students take medicine for this disorder, but always seem to wear off towards the end of the day, during the beginning of my Afterschool program. I experience the behaviors and issues of an ADHD child without medicine that becomes frustrating doing my work day.
What academic training is required? Are there additional requirements (clinical practicum, research background)?
One must have a MD or MD/PhD degree, be board-certified or board-eligible in either general or child/adolescent psychiatry, quality for a faculty appointment at UCLA, and be eligible for permanent medical licenses. Also, clinical and research accomplishments including training of different disorders, diagnosis and treatment skills are recommended (NeuroJob Career Center).
What types of employment opportunities are available in this area?
I will be provided with great opportunities such as teaching, mentoring, supervising, and directing individuals in and out of an outpatient clinical program.
