Both “Psychological operations”, by Phil klay, and “On the rainy river”, by Tim O’Brien highlight the idea that one’s family is not necessarily made up of people who are related by blood. In “Psychological operations”, the narrator, Waguih, meets a woman, Zara, who he is able to connect with. He is able to tell her the full story of what happened to him while he was at war without her attacking him verbally. This is in sharp contrast to how Waguih’s father reacts; he kicks Waguih out after hearing the story. While Waguih is unable to tell his father information that is very important to his personality, he is able to tell a woman who he barely knows.…

In this short story we meet Sister and four members of her family. The Protaganist of the story ia Sister , the oldest child of two girls, and her younger sister Stella-Rondo is the family favorite. It seems everything Sister wants, Stella-Rondo gets. Sister says that Stella-Rondo stole her boyfriend for it was Sister who had been dating Mr. Whitaker first until Stella- Rondo, being the jealous person she was told him that Sister was "one-sided," unequal on both sides. And that in-turn ended the relationship.Sisters real problem is that she is extreamly jelous of Stella-rondo. And she, Sister, at times can be a little selfish. For instance at the end Sister says to herself, "And if Stella-Rondo should come to me this minute, on bended knee, and attempt to explain the incidents of her life with Mr. Whitaker, I'd simply put my fingers in both my ears and refuse to listen" (153). That statement alone defines her jealously and selfishness towards her sister, because it seems Mr. Whitaker is the only thing she is really upset about for she makes no mention about any of the other family members,…

“The wolf comeback is due to its listing under the Endangered Spices Act, which provided protection from unregulated killing and resulted in increased scientific research along with reintroduction and management programs” (USFW 1). As of May 2011, the U.S. government and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife services have officially removed the gray wolf from the endangered species list calling the recovery, “one of the most remarkable success stories in the history of conservation.” “There are an estimated 7000 to 11,200 gray wolves in Alaska, 3,700 in the Great Lakes region and 1,675 in the Northern Rockies” (Defenders of Wildlife 1). The gray wolf is no longer on the endangered species list because the numbers have risen so dramatically. Punitive damages are those that have surpassed simple compensation and that have been awarded to punish the defendant. These damages are usually only awarded in special cases and in civil court cases. In some states, punitive damages are based on statute; in other states, they are based on case law. There is no maximum amount of money that a defendant can be ordered to pay. After researching different cases with punitive damages, two different ones stuck out to me: one that I agree with and one that I disagree with.…
