With over 15.5 million children living in poverty in the United States, we here at AV Homes felt there was no better time than the present to lend a helping hand in bringing joy to less fortunate children during this most special time of year.…
Explain the role of capitalism in the 100-year growth of Nederlander Concerts. How does Nederlander benefit from each of the fundamental rights of capitalism?…
Being active in National Charity League for six years, I have had the pleasure of working with many different philanthropies, my favorite being The Tualatin School House Pantry. Operating out of the basement of a church, the food bank helps to feed families in the community who are struggling financially. While my first few experiences at the food pantry were emotionally challenging, I found them to be very eye opening. I met many people from different backgrounds, yet they all shared the same hardship, the inability to afford food for themselves and their families. Wanting to do more for the recipients, I received training to be one of the personal shoppers.…
I observed a child throwing a fit at the mall the other day. This child did not want to leave the store and did not want to get into her stroller. She started to throw her head back and scream very loudly. Then she would throw her arms around and kick, in an attempt to not be strapped in. The mother started to yell at her daughter to stop while trying to strap her in. After a few minutes of the child kicking and screaming she was able to strap her in. But the child continued to scream, this was when the mother decided to leave the mall. My recommendation is that instead of trying to force the child into the stroller the parent could have held the child. Trying her best to calm her down, since the child was throwing around her body while the…
David gives us food for thought about engaging in and creating services that are geared towards changing or perhaps saving the less fortunate people that are living in social injustice. Mr. Brooks applauds the people that are excited to make a difference, but lets us know that their efforts are in vain if they think change is possible without the process of politics. David informs us…
The Sarah Bartmaan video today had some very shocking mistreatment of African Americans. I don’t understand how Europeans could justify their actions of treating another human being like that. Also to know that people still went to see her pickled remains for almost a century after her death showed that it was more than one person that contributed to this. People thought that African Americans were a different species and weren’t even human. We can also see this in our society today. I grew up outside the Bronx, and my school was mainly comprised of African American and Hispanic people. My cousins that lived just outside the city in the suburbs, went schools were the population was 90% white. It is almost like our races still keep us separate…
The video presentation involving the caseworker, school nurse, and the psychiatrist, discussing possible methods of helping Annie is in my opinion a great video to utilize for an analysis of group communication and diversity styles. The participant of this group consisted of three individuals, one male and two females and their attempts to assist a 17-year-old high school student by the name of Annie. Annie potentially suffers from an eating disorder and a level of depression. These issues were present as being identified through the school's nurse…

The therapeutic relationship is the relationship between a therapist and a client, who hopes to connect with one another for change in the client’s life. Gloria’s relationship with each therapist was different as the different aspects were giving. Her reaction was like she was a new person as she walks in with the same concept of being a single mother with a heavy burden. In her session with Dr. Rogers, Gloria was at easy and she had a warm atmosphere. In her session with Dr. Perls, Gloria was defensive and did not connect at all. She was scared and emotional.…
The recently had a benefit concert and all the profits went straight to helping the youth. Because of their great strides and selflessness, enough money was raised to erect a 30-apartment residence for the LGTBQ youth in New York. (Peters) It is that kind of effort that pays off. The foundation put something to their minds and they got something done. These youth do not want a handout either. Some of them are self-sufficient and all they want is a safe place to lay their head. They try so hard to just find a safe place to stay and they end up with the wrong person they picked up at a bar “cuddling” for a night and are out on the street then next morning.…
During the video connection, a primary school instructor exhibits her mode of operation in her inclusive classroom where she has the participation of high-incidence learning disabilities. In her narrative she explained that there are several different kind of strategies used to aid exceptional students in her classroom. According to Cengage Learning video, “high incidence disabilities are those that clearly show up most frequently in the classroom, and they tend to be disabilities that are not physically obvious.” (2015) The three different supports used in this classroom are listed here. 1. The executive function strategy – where the students are given graphic organizers to aid them in visualizing and verbalizing their thoughts. 2. The emotional context strategy – creates a safe environment for the students, while providing structured rules and encouragement for those students needing it. 3. Technology is provided in the absence of an additional teacher – this is especially helpful in getting the children organized in completing their…
(Relate to Audience): I am sure almost all of us in here will have kids in the future at some point. Imagine not being able to give your child food to eat on a daily basis. Imagine making your child walk six miles daily to retrieve water that is not even sanitary. These are some terrifying thoughts, but so many children are living in these conditions as we speak. You may think that you cannot do anything about this but I am here today to tell you that you can. You can save a child’s life and help them get out of these conditions by sponsoring a child through a child sponsorship organization.…
As a volunteer with my high school friends, we were given the opportunity to attended and to help to explain how the program works. A woman named Kathy came and approached me. Although I could tell that she was exhausted, but she offered a warm smile as she greeted me . Afterward we began to walk towards the table, she informed me that she was a mother of five children, and this would be the first check up she's had in the last two years. Her story began to inspire me in more ways than I could have ever imagined. The most amazing aspect of Kathy was the joy when she talked to me about her children. Her dream was for her children to have a better education. Although she doesn't have enough money to take care of her children but she won't give up and always keeps up the hard work. We sorted out the perfect medications for each of her children and stacked them carefully in her bag. As she gathered her things to leave, she embraced me tightly and continued to thank me. She reminded me that this will mean the world to her children, and she could not even begin to describe how much my help meant to her. I smiled back with happiness .…
