Our community also includes the City of Show Low, a micropolitan area that has the highest poverty rate in the nation, with 33% residing in poverty, according to US Census Bureau Vintage 2014. The population of our service area is 192,306 and increases substantially in the summer months, when the area has an influx of visitors from the Metropolitan areas. Above all, we continually strive to provide services to all of the additional at-risk animals in our region whether they are local animals or just visiting.
Our shelter helps more than 1,000 homeless and abused animals per year. We feed, home, vaccinate, spay/neuter, and adopt these animals, while incurring the cost for all these services and supplies. Our yearly expense for just the supplies to provide these services to all the animals brought into our shelter is $39,099.00, making up 7% of our total expenses.
We offer services to our low-income community to help reduce the unwanted pet population, and to be able to vaccinate their pets at a lower cost than going to the Veterinarian.
