Nur672 Reflection
I wanted to relay my concerns regarding the class that I just completed NUR672. Master's level students were combined with the Baltimore County Nurses cohort. This course was by far the most challenging class I have endured during my entire time at Stevenson.

First let me say that I feel that the class was not on the Master's level. Assignments were not as robust and writing requirements were very relaxed. I felt like I was in a lower level nursing class.

Second- we had two group papers. These papers caused tremendous controversy and contention between the Master's students and the school nurses. Their writing was poor, thoughts did not make sense and they refused our input on the final paper. I sent several emails to Dr. Clayton about

Nursing, in my opinion, is one of the most significant professions that one can be blessed to acquire. To those who pursue this field know it is a career that requires far more than simply an education even though the knowledge acquired from a degree is extremely important and necessary, by grasping rationale of the laws and regulations that rule nursing. A career in nursing requires someone to have compassion, sympathy, and care for others, especially those who are suffering from pain, illness and lack the understanding of what is happening to them or a loved one. It is a career of humanity, and it is this that first attracted me to a Masters degree in Nursing. My philosophy about nursing is that it is a career that one has to work hard for, but also a career that a person needs to have to a natural affinity for. I also believe one must have a commitment to helping others not expecting anything in return but a smile and knowing when you go home you gave your all. The ability to be a compassionate, caring nurse is what I hope to bring to the Masters degree in Nursing Program, gaining…

Hello Dr. DeVoe and classmates, currently working on a surgical intensive care unit (SICU) for the past 7 years, before that worked on an open heart ICU for 16 years. I have been a nurse for over 30 years and started as an LPN and achieved my BSN in the year 2000. Have been a preceptor for many years but have no experience in curriculum development, so this will be a new journey for me. Live in Queens in NYC, care for my mother who has Alzheimer's disease. Becoming a nurse was a dream that became reality for me in October 2012. I had passed the LPN-NCLEX. I was eager and full of hope, looking toward the beginning of a new career for which I had been preparing. The challenge, which alarms me, is the transition phase where I am not yet an RN, but I am held to that standard. My aim is to practice being an assertive communicator as well as foster interaction with co-workers, administrators and…

The Impact of the IOM report on nursing education will be and has been tremendous. The report recommends that 80 percent of the nursing workforce should be BSN nurses by the year 2020 (IOM,2010 page 4-9). This report should help nurses realize that they will have to have their BSN in order to continue working at the hospital/acute-care setting, in the near future. This also should give notice to the Licensed practical nurses that they need to go back to school to receive their Registered Nurse degree, because if ADN nurses who decide not to go back to school can no longer work in the acute-care setting, they will have to work in the extended care, home…

After leaning about each concept in Nursing 201 I have become more competent than before about the profession of nursing in areas such as evidence based practice, patient centered care and many other areas. I think after learning about patient centered care and the nurse-patient communication I am better prepared to interact with patients. Some things that I find to be especially helpful are to not ask close-ended questions or anything that will result in a simple yes or no, use general leads, use silence and to paraphrase and reflect what the patient says.…

Being in the medical field for the past ten years, I have seen the growth and changes in the medical field. When I began my nursing career as a medical assistant, I noticed many other nurses continuing their education to be able to have greater hands on approach in nursing. This opened my eyes to the endless possibilities that a nurse can do, whether it’s with direct patient care or being a resource to patients and other nurses around. After completing my RN in May of 2015, I decided that I really enjoyed being a mentor and teacher to other nurses. That is why I am continuing on with my education in hopes to one day receive my Master’s degree in Nursing and be able to utilize the knowledge and skills that I build, to educate patients. I still…

By utilizing the information presented in this class, I was able to learn, apply and document via a written paper information on Erikson’s developmental stages and Butler’s Life Review. I was able to practice my interviewing skill during my interview of R.V. The take away I had with his interview is that it takes work to be successful and you have to have balance in your life. It may not come when you are at the peak of working or during education, but you must find the balance. I have enjoyed my time in this class and I will use he skills that I have learned and I will apply the information that I read as I enter into my practice as a nurse and hopefull as a nurse…
