Upon interview he did not really want to come in but his sister made him. She was concerned about his behavior, knowing that he has been traumatized coming from a dysfunctional family. They did not know where to turn to and decided to go to this particular clinic. After taking time to interview and build rapport, the child openly verbalized feeling depressed but did not think of harming others or self; he also expressed has other personal issues that he thinks need to looked into. It was clearly explained how we would be working things out to help him, and that he would be referred to a specialist/s who the clinic works with as needed. The streamlined service offered by the clinic is beneficial to both patient and providers. The social worker worked with them to facilitate his insurance coverage. He also had other medical issues, which were all addressed. Everybody in that clinic knew their jobs and how to handle issues accordingly, which makes the patient and family members, feel significant and well cared

Advances in medicine have increased the life expectancy from 45 to 78 years of age in the last century. As the population ages, so does the number of chronic illness and the need for specialized end-of-life care. With the current shortage of trained hospice care providers, the push for utilization of nurse practitioners in this area of medicine is being looked at as a possible solution. Efficacy of a nurse practitioner led model of care has been demonstrated in the limited amount of studies done in recent years and shows promise of a solution to the shortage. care patients are receiving and to improve the quality of care given. Healthcare workers should be identifying the root causes of outcomes, regardless of the outcome. Tracking of these outcomes, recognizing the differences and similarities of each, and making changes to the care provided based on this information is evidenced-based practice. Nursing-sensitive indicators are categorized into one of three areas of nursing: structural, process, and outcome. Structural indicators include adequate staffing and education and experience levels of the nurses providing the care. Those with higher levels of education and experience are said to have better outcomes than those with less experience and/or education. Process…

After leaning about each concept in Nursing 201 I have become more competent than before about the profession of nursing in areas such as evidence based practice, patient centered care and many other areas. I think after learning about patient centered care and the nurse-patient communication I am better prepared to interact with patients. Some things that I find to be especially helpful are to not ask close-ended questions or anything that will result in a simple yes or no, use general leads, use silence and to paraphrase and reflect what the patient says.…

They manage acute and critical ill clients both mental and physical. They are able to provide care without the supervision of a doctor. NPs still have to refer to doctors when things are out of their scope of practice. NP can be referred to as (advanced practice nurses, APN). While researching texts written and published about Nurse Practitioners, I have found that Nurse Practitioners are rapidly becoming the top health partner choice for many Americans. Nurse Practitioners have been servicing patients for over forty years. The NP role had its initiation in the mid-sixties in response to a lack of physicians in the United States. They can perform very extensive and concentrated examinations; distinguish and treat common keen illnesses, as well as laboratory tests; and educate and instruct patients and their loved ones about maintaining a healthy lifestyle and possible health care options. In all fifty states Nurse Practitioners are allowed to prescribe medications to patients, including controlled substances. Only twenty-six states allow Nurse…

I believe that implementing strategies to promote, maintain, and restore health is key to the nursing career; the main goal of nursing is to improve an individual’s health. In my clinical experience, it’s to maintain the individual’s health issues or diseases. An example of using teaching/learning principles is when taking a resident’s blood glucose a family member asked me what the normal range for blood glucose is. I explained that a blood glucose level between 70-100mg/dL is desired. Then I went on to explain that based of the resident’s blood glucose levels a certain amount of insulin will be administered. I also taught the family member that insulin is a hormone that helps the cells take in glucose; which results in the cell using glucose as energy and a decrease in blood sugar…
