They found that a majority of residents were often neglected, abused, and inadequately cared for. To solve these issues, the IOM proposed a series of reforms that were brought into action the following year — known as the Nursing Home Reform Act.…

Colonial Care Center is a local Long beach Nursing Home Located on the corner of Cherry and 5th street. This facility is around the corner from my house, so I was able to visit the home multiple times to get a better understanding of how the residents are living. If I had to rate the residents daily life from my three visits, I would give this home a 6 out of 10. Some of the residents seem to enjoy their interactions with the staff, while others looked miserable. The attire of the patients was all over the board. Some were dressed in pajamas and others were dressed in pants and shorts as if they were ready to go on a nice walk. The staff appeared to have a good relationship with the residents that were willing to interact with them. They knew…

This is because, some caregivers often abuse the residents. This is really against the philosophy of service delivery. Since the philosophy of service delivery of ALFs is specially designed to take into consideration the individual’s choice, dignity, autonomy, independence, and quality of life. It is, therefore, imperative that all these should be followed to the letter so that quality of care can be improved. Apart from abuse, some ALFs do not have the right training to give medications. Some are not even aware that some medications, like narcotics, ought to be locked, not to talk of being double-locked, thus, they need to keep receiving training every now and then so that the facility will not be closed down and the residents will be better for it. Other ways that there could be more improvement in ALFs is for administrators to enforce the following regulations; food and nutrition, admission agreements and even discharge procedures, monitoring residents and prevention, fire safety and other emergency…
