promotion of healing, easing suffering, learning, culture of safety and respect. An example of how the organization fulfils this is thru providing continual education and training for physicians and other healthcare professionals in order to improve the health status of the community. Their vision is to be the most trusted healthcare partner, providing excellent clinical quality and service to the patients. The organization exhibits this by strengthen relationships between physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professional and consistently exceeding expectations for care, comfort and communication.
Mission and Philosophy of my Nursing Unit The hospital and nursing department fall under the same organizational structure. There is a shared governance partnership that aligns with multiple unit councils which drive the organization's mission, vision, values, strategies and goals. They both encourage employee engagement through shared focus of the patients, employees, quality and safety. My unit values these same goals by practicing patient safety first, respect all, do what's right, communication is critical and always learn. This is a collective vision of the nurses to demonstrate their commitment to deliver competent and compassionate patient care while providing a respectful environment for everyone. Our nurses believe that patients have the right to participate in their own care and have committed to deliver holistic care of the mind-body-spirit. These are all core ideas/values that all the nursing staff tries to hold dear and adhere to their patients.
An example, is the hospital along with nursing department made a four-minute long video involving employees from all departments describing the hospital entire culture in just three words-Patient Safety First, promoting safe behavior and teamwork, reinforcing to the patients and community that safety is the hospital's priority. An additional step my hospital takes is providing the staff with yearly cultural awareness training promoting health equality that directs the attention to diverse cultural health beliefs.
In my role as a charge nurse in an emergency department, I am able to reach this goal through staff engagement providing high quality efficient patient care and clinical and service excellence.
By taking on the responsibility of quality improvement strategies, encouraging communication throughout the team and following evidence-based practice that bring a greater awareness to all the staff. Consequently increasing efficiency and achieving success of providing patients with safety and quality of care in alignment with the organization's core values and mission statement.
My Nursing Department Structure/Model
Conclusion All organizations try to position their identity in the minds of the hospital staff and the community through the dimensions of set principles that govern their work, why they work, and their value in doing the work. Having a foundation of excellence, integrity, respect, teamwork and collaboration, innovation, compassion, stewardship and diversity is what is recognized in any health care system. I have become inspired to fully understand because you cannot effectively make a difference in something if you do not
