By dates using an EDD of 04/09/17, she is 36 1/7 weeks and the fetal measurements on average are 2 weeks larger. The abdominal circumference and femur length are one week larger than dates, whereas the average of the head measurements is 2-3 weeks larger than dates. The current EFW is 3200 g. The amniotic fluid volume is normal, and the BPP and Doppler studies are reassuring. An overview fetal anatomy assessment was performed and no major malformations…
I observed a child throwing a fit at the mall the other day. This child did not want to leave the store and did not want to get into her stroller. She started to throw her head back and scream very loudly. Then she would throw her arms around and kick, in an attempt to not be strapped in. The mother started to yell at her daughter to stop while trying to strap her in. After a few minutes of the child kicking and screaming she was able to strap her in. But the child continued to scream, this was when the mother decided to leave the mall. My recommendation is that instead of trying to force the child into the stroller the parent could have held the child. Trying her best to calm her down, since the child was throwing around her body while the…
On Friday, February 16, 2018, I attended Nahum Dimitri Chandler’s lecture, in which he examined W.E.B. Du Bois’s idea of double consciousness. The lecture was split into three parts: first, Chandler provided a theoretical framing of double consciousness; second, he briefly summarized a text Du Bois wrote about double consciousness; and third, he expressed why he believes Du Bois’s ideas to be fascinating. While I thought that the lecture was interesting, I had an immense amount of difficulty understanding all of Chandler’s points. Chandler used extravagant language that I had trouble understanding, and I found myself googling some of the words he was using during the lecture so that I could fully understand what arguments he was attempting…
The purpose of this assignment is to explore the issue surrounding screening and examination of the new born from birth. The article will look at why we perform this examination following birth and will pay particular attention to the examination of the eye. It is documented that the purpose of the first examination of the new born is to confirm normality and to provide reassurance to the parents (MacKeith, 1995, Hall, 1999) and also to identify any apparent physical abnormality (Buston and Durward 2001). However the question that we may wish to consider is ‘what is normal in a neonatal who is undergoing major physiological adaptations to extra uterine life (Blackburn and Loper, 1993) ? How as midwives can we fulfil this expectation of norm, when there is, as Hall (1999) suggests no confirmation of normality available ? Nevertheless a thorough search of the literature suggests that the neonatal examination is universally accepted as ‘good practice’, and any deviation from this practice could perhaps, potentiate negligence when subjected to the Bolam test (Sherratt, A, 2001). This test is often used as a benchmark to measure any negligence by, and examines if another professional of same standing would act in the same manner.…

The purpose of this observation was to analysis a preschool age child between the ages of 3-5 on their social and emotional development using “California Preschool Learning Foundation Volume 1: Social and Emotional” and “Desired Results Developmental Profile – preschool.” (DRDP) The child was observed for one hour in two locations at three different settings. The observer noticed the child playing and interacting with the environment. The written portion of the child observation closely analyzed the social and emotional development using “California Preschool Learning Foundation Volume 1”, one hour observation, and applying the DRDP measures. The social and emotional development is written in three portions that analyze the child’s self, social…
In an evening spent at a local park, I observed two toddlers playing on the playground. Both toddlers were about the same size and height, and they were seemingly about two years of age. These two children stood out to me because though they seemed about the same age, their behavior on the playground was very different. As I observed, both subtle and large differences began to make themselves apparent.…

As we read on in this story we start to see how the grandma stirred the family in the wrong direction and how because of her excessive talking and poor choice of words caused her and her family to lose their life. Some people like to work early morning, others like to work until late at night. I would prefer to get up early morning and start my day’s work than working until late night. Working early in the morning can make me more energetic and I can remember everything quickly. There are many reasons why I like work early morning is that I feel fresh, I have more time to do different activities.…
I reached the home of my observation subject, Boo, on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 7:15 pm. The screen door was open. When I rang the doorbell I heard Boo say, “Who is it?” She ran to the door and said “Hi.” I spend 45 minutes observing her behavior at her home. Boo weighed in at 7 pounds 9 ounces and 20 inches long at birth. Her mother approximates her gestational age was 37 weeks. Boo now weighs 27 pounds, almost quadrupling her birth weight, the norm for children her age.…
I was waiting for my uncle to talk with him but he did not even come to my home so I thought someone is going wrong with him. After a while, someone knocks the door and I opened the door, it was my grandmother from her house. I tried to communicate with her using hand gestures, but she was not being able to understand me so I thought writing on the piece of paper is a good idea. I wrote on paper in my own language (Nepali) by saying “I was missing you from back home when you left us”. After she finishes reading papers, I was already full of tears and I talk with her using hand gestures that I want to talk with you, but she tells me I will talk to your parents and she left me. On those days, I was shocked, nervous and frustrated by seeing different attitudes towards…
It was playtime for the one year old boy. There were all sorts of toys. The playroom was very small. There was a huge toy chest full to the top with toys. On the wall there was a body length mirror. This was the little boys favorite place to play. He would also play with some of the other toys like blocks, cars, stuffed animals and other things. No matter what he grabbed he always brought it in front of the mirror.…
Individualism– Giving priority to one’s own goals over group goals and defining one’s identity in terms of personal attributes rather than group identification. For the first time in my life I am being an individualist. I am giving greater priority to my own personal goals. I honestly don’t know what I was thinking changing careers at the age of 42 but I am determined to get my nursing degree. For the next 2 years it will be about me and my own personal achievements.…
