Many people who are remembered for their accomplishments had the odds going against
them. They had every reason to fail, to give up, yet they persisted. One great example of this is
Isaac Newton, who was a very interesting man. He was brilliant in the fields of Philosophy,
Physics, Mathematics, Astronomy, and Science. Isaac Newton is credited as one of the great
minds of the 17th century Scientific Revolution (bio. Isaac Newton 1). Although he was one of
the greatest scientists to ever live, he had many obstacles to overcome.
Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643 in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. From his
beginning life was challenging, as his father died …show more content…
This experience “left him with an acute sense of insecurity” (bio. Isaac Newton 1).
Isaac Newton got his basic education at The Kings School, but, at age 12, he ran across yet
another obstacle. His mother returned and pulled him out of school because she planned for him
to be a farmer. However, Newton wasn’t very good at farming because he wasn’t interested in it,
and he found it to be monotonous. Soon after this, he went back to The Kings School and
finished his early education. (bio, Isaac Newton 1).

Isaac’s uncle, who graduated from the University of Cambridge’s Trinity College, picked up
on the boy’s intelligence and talked his mother into letting him go to the university. Newton
didn’t show any exceptional ability, and graduated with no honor or distinction, however, he did
earn the title of scholar. Just as things started to improve for Isaac, he came across yet another
challenge. In 1665 he had to leave because the Great Plague arrived at Cambridge and the
university was closed (Klee 317). It was during this time that a famous story was …show more content…
In this book, Newton told of his three laws of
motion, laws that are still used as a basis for studying motion today. Of course, it was rather
difficult to understand the book. In fact, one student even said, “There goes the man who wrote a
book that neither he nor anyone else understands.” “Here, in simplified terms, are Newton’s
three laws of motion” 1. Inertia: “A body in motion will stay in motion, and a body at rest will
stay at rest, unless acted on by an unbalanced force.” 2. “The force of an object is equal to its
mass times its acceleration.” 3. “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” (Klee

In 1693 Isaac Newton suffered from another mental breakdown, why he did is hard to say,
but some sources say it could have been because of his exposure to Mercury while working in
Alchemy. He sent several deranged letters to his friends and acquaintances accusing them of
treachery. Newton recovered within a few months and came out of the mental breakdown
