The Ocean
The ocean, from the Pacific to the Atlantic and the Indian to the Artic, is a vast and enchanting part of our world. The oceans of this world cover more than sixty six percent and that number is steadily rising. There are so many facets of the ocean that are yet to be discovered, but as someone who lives fifteen minutes away from a beach, it is hard not to be intoxicated by the allure that the ocean draws. Oceans have their own smell, feel, taste and sound, but every person who has experienced these sensations gives a different description; these are my accounts of the great ocean.
Smell, by definition is to perceive an odor or scent through ones nose. Going to the beach as often as I do, one tends to get used to the smell of the roaring ocean. However, after sitting and thinking about it for a while, there is a distinct smell that I could never forget. The smell of seaweed is so thick but smooth that it overpowers the smell of rotting fish from the near-by fisherman’s spot. The gust of wind blown ashore by the gigantic waves sends the smell of salt water mixed with a sense of calm that travels through the body to its very core.
Touch, the feel, they both correspond to the sensation of unimaginable and fantastic experiences that may only happen once in a lifetime. The feel of a fish swimming against your leg, or a crab pinching at your toes, they are such feelings that some may be fearful of, or delighted by. When a wave rushes towards you with its king like demeanor you feel the power it holds as it plows over you. The touch of the ocean is one of the most magical experiences one will ever come by.
