Scholarship Committee:
The value of education is something that my single mother has made me understand since a very young age. My mother, my hero, never had an opportunity to attend college, and faced many struggles in her professional life including working three part time jobs most of her life. This is why I want an education to fulfill my purpose of professionally helping others.
Because of her love and sacrifice over the years, and even though I have struggled academically in my early years, seeing her dedication has changed my outlook. My last two years of high school, my grades have continuously improved to honor status. My efforts are evidence that no matter what the obstacle, anyone can accomplish a goal through hard work and commitment.
Additionally, I have also been active in my school and community outside of the classroom, serving as a dance team leader for two years, serving as a committed leader in the Future Business Leaders of America, serving as a dedicated member in the DECA, Inc., and volunteering to assist children with disabilities and serving the homeless during school breaks.

My mother has made many sacrifices in hopes that I would pursue higher education. Pursuing a career through education is my dream too. I now have an opportunity to become the first person in my family to attend college, though I am in need of financial assistance to realize what has been a long-term goal for me and a dream for my mother.

I will continue to apply the same diligence to my collegiate studies as I have to this point, making education and service to others my top priority. I will represent your organization well during my years in college and beyond. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Amber Brunson

Besides that, I am also an active volunteer within my community and school. The last event that I participated in was earlier in the school year as the lead cadet of a concession stand at a college sports game in order to raise money for my JROTC program. Also, I have been a service learning project coordinator for a project that had the purpose of aiding the homeless citizens of Detroit. From there, I hope to study to be accepted into medical school and specialize in pediatrics. When preparing for medical school, the advice one hears are to become a well-rounded student. Through my DECA experiences I have been able to develop leadership skills that will help me thrive in my future. Over the three years I have been involved, I have stepped out my comfort zone and made a difference in my local DECA chapter, community, and my future. Now taking the responsibility of being a DECA officer, as the chapter president, has allowed me to continue to grow and develop my leadership, communication, and social skills. Working with the Milan DECA Chapter members has proven how difficult and enjoyable being a leader is. At times leading so many events can be stressful; however, the completion of the events pushes me further. In order to reach the goal of becoming ‘well-rounded’, I used DECA skills to organize my time to join other extracurriculars within my community. Along with DECA, I participate in 4-H which is a non-profit organization in counties all across the nation that prepares youth to make a positive impact on their communities. Furthermore, I lead my 4-H club in a Relay For Life team through the American Cancer Society. Additionally, I am a dedicated musician, drum major, and the first Milan High School Flute Choir Director. I am an active participant in the peer education program at Milan High School. I am so thankful for the opportunities to be a leader within my class, school, community, county, and…

I am a church member and musician at Revival Tabernacle. By being a musician, I find myself working with the talents and ideas of others as we come together on one accord and produce a skilled sound. I am also currently a student at Jones County High School. Being a student, I am a service to other organizations at school by being an usher for Graduation and also the Chorus Department. My recent involvement in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and DECA has enriched my knowledge of the business sector and how we all come together as a society and produce great ideas. In these organizations, I was able to be a holiday helper at local Nursing Homes to bring cheer to the residents. From my participation in these organizations and activities, I learned that it is better to give than receive. I was able to gain experience with dealing with the public and also give people a sense of comfort and love.…

I always wanted to go to college growing up, but because of my family, along with my sisters and myself, were born and raised in a refugee camp in Nepal, I had a feeling that college was a dream that would not come true for me. In 2012, we came to Salt Lake City, Utah. The school I did was from 9th grade. After resettlement in the United States, my parents are still struggling to look after the educational future of me and my sisters. My family said if I could find a way to pay for college. I began to apply for many scholarships, which would help to fulfill my dream and desire.…

There are so many opportunities here to join amazing organizations and become part of something that is bigger than oneself. Next semester, I have quite a few organizations and events that I am planning to be a part of. First of all, the big event for Dance Marathon is on February 3rd and 4th. The big event is when students all come together for 24 hours to celebrate all of the fundraising and the hard work they have done all year, and besides that, they come together to celebrate the children who have survived cancer and to mourn the ones who have not. Within this 24-hour event, dancers are not allowed to sit or have any caffeine. Dancers are there to dance for those who cannot. The second organized that I am going to be a part of next semester is the University of Iowa’s Mobile Clinic. The Mobile Clinic is a year round clinic that travels around the surrounding areas of Iowa City to provide free health care to those who otherwise may just go without. I will be a volunteer at the clinic and will be there to help take vitals and check people into the clinic. This opportunity is amazing as I will be helping those who truly need it and cherish what we are doing. The third thing that I plan to do next semester is to volunteer at the University of…

I’m involved, and have leadership roles, in many clubs and service organizations within my school, but you can simply see that on my resume. These clubs have an enormous impact on the community and have definitely contributed to helping me become a leader, but, again, you can see that on my resume. What you can not see on my resume is the profound impact dance has had on not only me as a leader but my life as a whole. I started dancing when I was 3 years old and 14 years later I’m still dancing. Spending 12 of those years at the same dance studio, Dancentre South, has allowed me to not only influence my dance studio but the community it creates and is surrounded by. I started assisting and demonstrating for dance classes when I was 12, this class started my career of not only helping my fellow dancers succeed but creating my…

I high school I was also very involved within my school and community. During my Sophomore year I founded and became president of the programming club for the remaining three years. This club was a huge success and has significantly prepared me for the work I have done as a TA at WIT. Over the summer of my Junior year I interned at BAE. Myself and a few other interns fixed up old computers for the community, we even got to keep one at the end. I was also heavily involved with my local church where I volunteered on a constant basis, helping out with blood drives, fund raising events, being a teaching assistant, and also a CCD teacher. As a supporter of renewable energies I was also a member of the green club for my Junior and Senior years.…

Started the school year fall of 2013-14 at Westchester Community College ready and full of excitement. I’m an aspiring nursing student so getting all A’s and B’s were at the top of my game plan as far as my grades were concerned. So I met with an advisor to help me decide what classes to take and what classes are best to take together. I had taken many of my prerequisite already so my advisor, whom I put my faith in to have my best interest at heart put these classes together for me- chemistry 113 with a lab, nutrition 109, anatomy and physiology I with a lab, and a cpr class. Now I don’t believe that my advisor was intentionally trying to sabotage me. I just think maybe they didn’t understand the scope of work involved.…

    Educational Biography

There have been some people throughout my education that have guided me in becoming who I am today. It is the relationships that I have made with these people that have helped me realize they are the most important aspects of my education. Without them, I would not be successful. “More and more, the kinds of opportunities that are open to you will be determined by how far you go in school. In other words, the farther you go in school, the farther you’ll go in life.” (President Obama, 2010) It has been a long road but I truly believe I have reached success because I am still the only male in my family to graduate from high school and college and to have a career. I think I have gained much wealth, fame, and rank since I have redefined the expectations for my family. Several of my nieces have graduated from high school and one is currently at Penn State receiving her undergraduate degree in Psychology.…

I come from a family where both parents are with a college degree. My parents strongly believe that education is a value for future success. They had me observe how they both had to work, but they have always managed a litter easier in their lives because they both have university education. Now I realize what is the value of university education and its meaning to the whole family. Just watching the news and seeing these families who are less fortunate to go attend university makes me appreciate the chance my parent give me. These are just some of the many values my parents preach to me over the years.…

I am involved. I have been dancing for fourteen years now, playing the piano for thirteen years, and running track for almost six years. Not to mention, I have managed to hold three jobs now and, I have donated the remainder of my free time to community service. Perhaps to say that I am involved is an understatement- I am totally involved! Nonetheless, I don’t think I would be nearly as well-rounded as I would be without four vital virtues: scholarship, character, leadership, and service. I believe these four virtues have truly morphed me into the well-rounded individual I am today.…
