don't belong anywhere which leads him to wanting his own ranch. Lennie and George share the same dream because Lennie always looked up to George except Lennie loved to touch soft things. With Lennie loving soft things and looking up to George of course he wanted to own a ranch with him. But Lennie's real dream was to tend the rabbits. Lennie would find mice and pet them because they were soft but Lennie was mental and he didn’t notice his strength and he would end up killing it for petting it too hard. Lennie gets a puppy because one of the workers at the ranch dog gave birth to puppies. But Lennie managed to kill the puppy too. And Lennie said softly to the puppy, “Why do you got to get killed?” (steinbeck 85). Lennie was afraid George wouldn't let him tend the rabbits if he did anything bad so he was angry at the puppy for dying. Then Curley’s wife walks in not aware of Lennie’s mental functionality she begins talking to Lennie about herself and her dreams. Curley’s wife’s dream was to be a famous actress but her dream never came true. She sat and told Lennie about how that dream never came true. Curley’s wife was lonely so when she got the chance to talk to someone about herself she felt like it was only her time but all Lennie could do is think about tending the rabbits. Lennie interrupts her story again so she gets angry and asks him why is he so crazy about rabbits. “I like to pet nice things, once was nice, you bet. Sometimes i've even pet mice, but not when i could get nothing better,” Lennie answers (steinbeck 90). Lennie doesn't realize how lonely Curley's wife is all he cares about is himself and his own dream of tending the rabbits. Curley’s wife starts telling Lennie how her hair is also soft and she lets him feel it.
“Here feel right here. She took Lennie's hand and put it on her head. Feel right aroun’ there an’ see how soft it is.” (steinbeck 90). Lennie loved how soft Curley’s wife's hair was so he grabbed on harder. Whenever Lennie touched soft things he would get aggressive because he didn’t know his own strength and it dies. This is what happened to Curley’s wife Lennie tried to stop her from screaming and he ended up breaking her neck and he killed her. George found out about Lennie killing Curley’s wife and he was so tired of Lennie messing everything up so he decided to kill Lennie which ruined his dream and Lennie’s dream. Curley’s wife’s dream never came true because she was lonely and decided to talk to Lennie which led to her death. Loneliness makes dreams impossible to come true because it can affect people's actions like George, Lennie, and Curley’s
wife.
