The con speaker made an excellent argument, but I had to question if these issues are just temporary and if I should be worried simply because it is what we’re dealing with right at this moment. Though we are not completely out of it, we have survived recessions and changes in the economy before. We should decide on solutions that will remain effective in the long run instead of temporary fixes to immediately satisfy. The coal industry came to an end, so why can’t the oil industry? The oil industry is creating more problems than it is solving such as the destruction of the ozone layer contributing to global warming. I’d prefer a better economy in the future for our children and for this generation’s retirement. Also, being realistic, the U.S. will more than likely never get out of debt. I could tell the minds of many were not changed though. To improve her argument, I think the pro speaker should’ve spent more time analyzing and presenting us with new information that would refute the opposing side instead of the information that most people already knew about that defended her side.
