CHAPTER I
The Problem and Its Background
INTRODUCTION
Learning is not only limited on the four sides of classroom. In school, learning process takes place for many hours of sitting and discussing anything related to academics. But college life doesn’t end by just learning those theories; we have to apply it through training that will present our chosen career.
Practicum is a part of a course consisting of practical work in a particular field. A college practicum is a period intensely focused practical application of classroom and textbook theories and case studies to the actual world of work. It includes on-the-job training and observation and it is designed to give students supervised practical application of a previously or concurrently studied theory. On-the-Job Training is the most common training method used by organizations across all job functions whether at the factory floor, clerical, supervisory or managerial level. It has been one of the best forms of training because it placed the employee in a learning situation to develop confidence and a sense of productivity (White 2002). Students are trained by their supervisors or senior colleagues and the actual program scheduling, delivery and duration are left to the discretion of the trainer (Sisson, 2001). In most cases, although the trainers assigned for the on-the-job training are experienced in the tasks they are not given adequate training to become trainers (Kazanas, 2004).
