The northern and southern parts of the Unites States of America were politically, economically and culturally very different from one another. The people of the northern and southern colonies came to the new world for very different reasons and as time went on their differences grew. That is exactly what happened in the mid1800s in the United States. Most people in the south were rich people who settled there to create competition with other towns. When they realized that the soil there was good, they decided to start farming. The early settlers were rich people who did not want to work on the lands themselves so they employed people who they later claimed as slaves. The southern states wealth was largely dependent on saves. The two main reasons are they felt their states right, including their right to allow slavery were taken from them and they felt their respect as citizens were denied. Their main reason was that Lincoln had won the presidency without their votes being considered, As a result of being treated inferior they decided to form their own country. The new country originally started with seven states South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.
