Oppression In Israel And The South Africa Act Of 1909
Thousands of people around the world feel oppressed every day. They face oppression through a whole range of views. Any being that truly believes that they are superior to another whom is inferior can be said to be a racist person. Thousands of people suffer from such, no matter where one is in the world. Many critiques nowadays are analysing the situation in Israel and comparing it to that of apartheid South Africa and further to Northern Ireland. The apartheid regime that lasted from 1948-1994 brought about oppression upon the blacks. They were degraded and dehumanised. The apartheid regime was as a result of elite dominant settlers who believed that they had the right to such land. This essay will show how the situation in Israel and Northern …show more content…
It was in the next 10 years that the blacks now faced legal oppression. Colour bars were instituted so based on your skin colour one would earn a specific amount and be limited with their future progress. It was the Native Lands act that essentially started apartheid as this was the implementation of segregation. The Native Lands Act required the removal of natives living in specific areas and to be relocated elsewhere. People were forced off their land and this was an issue as now the natives required the labour market for finance as they can no longer live off their crop. It was General Louis Botha that pushed for racial segregation bills against the blacks. Further the Native act of 1923 reduced the flow of Africans in the city but mainly imposed the segregation through residential areas. It was only later in 1948 that there was an only Afrikaner government. Such a party was the NP (Nationalist Party), whom regained political power on the 4th June 1948. This is when apartheid was brought about officially. Apartheids ideology was to reallocate Africans to areas that weren’t resourceful and further try to develop individual nations almost amongst each segregated sect of people. It was taken ever further in 1950 with the Group Areas Act of 1950 as this brought about race partitions within the state. Africans were made to live in their tribal communities. this created the Africans to live within their homeland and not intervene in the whites lives. The Africans were forced to live in rural segregated areas, further the education system was corrupt as the education system was used to inform the blacks of the oppression that faced them from the white and or it was used to manipulate the black mind-set.     The economic category is demonstrated in document 2. In population the majority had 19 million where as the minority had 4.5 million. Although, the white had more land than the blacks. The blacks had a land allocation of 13% and the whites had 87%. The national income black would get was far less than the whites. Since there was so little doctors the infant mortality rate for the blacks was 20% (urban) and 40 % (rural) where as the whites had a percentage of 2.7%. The annual expenditure on education/pupil was $45 or blacks and $699 for whites. Since there was a little amount of money for blacks amd big amounts of money for whites the teacher/pupil ratio was 1/60 for blacks and 1/22 for whites. "Under no circumstances may an employer pay Africans the same amount as white persons even if they do the same work. and the same hours."     The architects of Apartheid effectively created a problem for everyone by creating artificial boundaries that were inherently going to be brought down. Anything that is artificial does not have staying power. The social, political and economic separation that was created took the country towards the extreme right swing of the pendulum. This ensured that the minority population enjoyed the majority of the social, political and economic benefits. When the pendulum swung back in the democratic era, it reversed the exclusivity of the social and political benefits from the minority while the economic ones are still lagging far behind. The constitution of the country has guiding principles that help the pendulum to swing to a neutral position at the centre and not to the extreme left because that is also dangerous. Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment policies are meant to accelerate the swing to the middle point which makes them temporal policies that cannot be allowed to stay on forever because they will swing the country to the extreme left. The greatest blind spot suffered by the architects of apartheid was that they disregarded the circular nature of life where things swing back.
