Motivation
The processes that account for an individual’s intensity, direction and persistence of effort toward attaining a goal
What a person does (Direction) How hard that person works (Intensity) How long they work at it (Persistence)
Types of theories
Needs & Motives Content theories look at what motivates people, i.e. money, promotions, status These theories suggest that people have internalised needs Choice & Cognition Process theories look at how people are motivated, i.e. goals, justice, expectancy These theories suggest that people are rational and evaluate a series of components to determine how much effort to put in
