Organizational Commitment and Communication Paper * Explain how different leadership styles would affect group communication in your chosen organization.
“Leadership style is a relatively consistent pattern of behavior reflecting a leader’s beliefs and attitudes. Although no two people act as leaders in precisely the same way, people do lead with three basic styles: (1) authoritarian (or autocratic), (2) democratic, and (3) laissez-faire” (Bebbe & Masterson, 2009, p. 290). Each of these different styles can affect group communication. First, is authoritarian, better known as autocratic. This particular Leadership style is used by people whom want control. They want to make the decisions and give the orders. This can be very detrimental in a group environment. People do not want to be bossed around. They do not want or expect to be told what to do when working in a group environment. They believe they will be able to offer input and to have their input thought about. With an Autocratic leader, this just does not happen. Sometimes you hear of leaders saying, “It’s my way or the highway.” This is very popular in this type of setting.
