Is there a dress code when visiting a theatre? This was not an answer anyone could have even thought of because my friend had planned everything to be a surprise. After parking in a nearby parking lot, I had thought we were just talking a walk in the city. However, my heart skipped a beat when I spotted the large …show more content…
LED light sign “ORINDA”. With no thought about it, I made a casual remark on how theatres might soon go out of business because of the rise in technology. My friend responded by saying that he wanted me to experience that theatres are here to stay for the American theatre lovers.
Getting to the lobby, we were ushered in by beautiful receptionists who warmly welcomed us to enjoy out visit.
What surprised me was the magnificent look of the massive theatre with over five hundred seats. In the main theatre, the seats are modern and comfortable with a massive screen whereas the other smaller theatres but I preferred the main theater. The ambiance in the theater is captivating as a result of the classic art deco and air conditioning (Schwartzel, 2015).
The theatre is surrounded by classic eateries, restaurants, shops and galleries which make the visit complete. When in the theatre, there are various servings of snacks from popcorn to soda depending on personal preferences and pocket. In this visit, we seat at the back on the suggestion of my friend because he is short and hates craning his neck. We were not very lucky because the movie showing had already started and was almost through.
However, more surprises were on the way because in my wildest dreams imagining enjoying a free concert by the world renowned Jimmy Cozier a jazz musician was utterly surprising. Jimmy has performed alongside many other famous jazz musicians such as Mongo Santamaria and Sam Rivera among many others. My friend seemed fascinated by my elation at the free concert especially when Jimmy was mentioned as the musician. With a graying hear, Jimmy was doting a casual shirt and a windbreaker that had an emblem of a
guitar.
The musician hired by the Orinda theatre as part of their livening the theatre, had a cool aura about him that got his fans overcome with joy. Immediately he picked up the saxophone, the crowd went wild and then followed silence as they listened to the sensational jazz maestro. What was surprising is that Jimmy went on an on without breaks and find ourselves in the theatre at eight in the night was surprising having gone there at mid afternoon. Within an hour, the show ended with a ‘coziersque’ bow which was returned with wild jubilation from the fans. What my friend did not know was that I am a deadbeat jazz fanatic which made my visit to the Orinda theatre in California the best I had in so many years.
