What age is appropriate for using braces?
Generally age doesn't matter regarding the issues of moving and correcting teeth alignment. It is a biological and physical process. However, an adult mouth is more reluctant to move or correct teeth position as all the facial bones and jaw structure is already positioned. This is the reason overcoming most types of malocclusions may require more than one type of orthodontic treatment during the childhood. However, it is also true that the adults can also go for a dental treatment. Generally the ideal age for metal and invisible braces and other orthodontic treatments is between 10 to 14 years of age.
What types of braces are available?
Dental braces are also known as fixed orthodontic appliances. They generally come in three varieties. The first type is dental brackets that are generally bonded to the patient's teeth. Braces may be made from metal or plastic. Today, clear or tooth-colored brackets are also available. The second type is lingual braces that are attached to the back of the teeth. As a result these braces are hidden from the view of the public. The third type is the bands that cover most of the teeth with metal bands wrapping around the teeth. Wires are used in all three types of wires in order to move the teeth to the desired
