Orthopedic surgeons have been around for a very long time, the way they do their jobs has not stayed the same from the beginning of time. Technology has affected the way Orthopedic surgeons work in their careers. Surgeon or student, there is never enough practice time. “Surgery is an apprenticeship technique that requires additional time for training in the operating room"(Mabrey, et al). Even when one practices many hours there always that nerve-wracking moment that one can have before a patient. Virtual reality can help with getting surgeons/students used to that environment, once this headset is placed over the eyes and ears it will put the person using it in different places depending on what procedure the person is training for or practicing. Using Virtual Reality applications can help in reducing surgery time, as well as getting first-hand knowledge since it gives a very realistic setting. Virtual reality can help with the growing skill sets for a surgeon since it is a new and upcoming experience for orthopedics. While it is being currently used it is not so popular yet in the orthopedics
