Why I Want To Become An Orthopedic Surgeon

I wish to see the world shift it’s focus from simply how to better itself, to how it can help others. It is important not to let ourselves get caught up in our own lives, but to have the strength to set aside our own problems in order to help others. Through becoming an orthopedic surgeon I hope to set a example of this change, and make a positive contribution to society. Using the knowledge and skills that I will gain at Clarkson University and medical school to help others achieve the highest quality of life possible. One specific way I hope to work toward achieving this goal is by advancing treatment options through research. For example, through studying osteosarcoma, I hope to develop a new treatment that would allow for the destruction
of the cancer cells within the bone without the need for surgical removal of the cells. In addition to the removal of the damaged cells, it is my ambition that the treatment would also stimulate normal bone cell growth so that the integrity of the effected bone wouldn’t be compromised. This treatment would allow osteosarcoma patients to gain back normal stability and strength in the bone minimizing the lasting effects the illness would have on their lives. Through medicine, it is my aspiration to dedicate my life to helping others, and set the example for changing the mindset of the world.
