Oscar Pistorius
A similar situation happened on Oscar Pistorius whose both legs were amputated below the knee when he was 11 months old. Oscar Pistorius, the first amputee Olympic athlete to compete using blade prostheses, made history at the London Olympics. Whether prosthetic legs give Pistorius an unfair advantage in the 400-meter race? Should the artificial legs disqualify his success at Olympics? The debate is still going on after years.

In auteur theory, a term originated by film critic Andrew Sarris in his essay, "Notes on the Auteur Theory"16, there is a desire to outline the personal vision of the director. This is said to be the key instrument to understanding filmmaking. In addition, he writes the question is how does a director express personal vision? The concern is how this theory is used to examine the initial “obsessions” and “thematic preoccupations” of the director versus the original creator or author. This essentially becomes a study or attempt to outline the director's desire and/or personal statement.…

There are 2 initiatives to overcome this barrier; the first being the creation of the Paralympics which allows disabled athletes to compete against other disabled athletes which allows for them to compete on a level playing field and also create more fair competition for the athletes. The other initiative is for prosthetic limbs to be created for Oscar Pistorius and other disable athletes which replicate actual limbs. This creation of the prosthetic limbs allows people such as Oscar Pistorius to be able to compete alongside Olympic athletes should they be able to actually qualify and compete, even though there remains to be controversy surrounding this idea. I think that it is unfair for Oscar Pistorius to be allowed into Olympic competition as he will not experience fatigue in his lower legs like the other athletes will do, this will give him an advantage over the other athletes.…

Since the Dark Ages, mankind has sought innovative solutions to a problem that has plagued them for centuries. Soldiers who were amputated and left handicapped from the horrors of war struggled to find a functional answer to their situation. Peg legs and hand hooks were one of the first developments in ancient prosthetics. However, they were unwieldy and difficult to hide. It was not until the early 1400’s that prosthetics were created with functionality and subtlety in mind. During this time in history, they were designed to mimic actual hands and limbs making it much easier to hide one’s handicap. Regardless, this advancement did not solve the problem of the prosthesis’ unwieldiness, nor did it allow the prosthesis to fully replicate the mechanical functions of the limb they were designed to replace.…

On Thursday, February 14th, Pistorius, 26, is accused of shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. After she was shot through a bathroom door in Pistorius’ apartment, he carried her downstairs. Authorities also have not said whether Pistorius called for help. A blood-stained cricket bat was also found at the scene and is key-evidence. No one knows yet whether the bat was used as a weapon, if Steenkamp used it in self-defense, or if Pistorius used it to break down the door.…

Concerning the OJ Simpson case, I think everyone had a feeling he was guilty. It's a shame because of flaws in the collection of evidence, a seemingly obvious murderer got away with it. As I followed the trial, even my 7 year old mind knew that he was guilty. It wasn't until later that I found out why he was let off. I agree with James that there are other things that should be covered in the new but at the same time it's the public's attraction to the celebrity cases that generates so much media attention.…

"There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountain top of our desires". These are the words of a man, Nelson Mandela, who fought for something that many would shy away from. He led the anti-apartheid movement, became the president of the African National Congress Youth League, and later became the president of South Africa winning the Nobel Peace Prize.…

On Friday, March 11, Japan was rocked by an earthquake. People were displaced, a nuclear reactor was in trouble, and the world watched as a tsunami flooded Japan, threatened the islands of the Pacific, and ultimately hit the western coasts of North and South America. Very little of the devastation resulting from this earthquake was from the initial shaking. But mainly because any damage from the seismic waves that was dwarfed by the impact of the 10 metre tsunami that hit the Japanese coast less than an hour later."Most of the reporting (both good and bad) that has been done on the earthquake, the tsunami, and the resulting fallout from both has focused on their effects on humans. But humans are just one species affected by these sorts of disasters.Slowly, a bit of information about various scaley, furry, or feathered critters has begun to trickle out of the affected areas. Kazutoshi Takami, a veterinarian at the Osaka Municipal Tennoji Zoological Gardens, reported last week that several zoos and aquariums were suffering shortages of gas, heater fuel, and food and drinkable water for humans as well as for animals. Also, according to Takami, the Fukushima Aquarium made plans to move their sea mammals and birds to Kamogawa Sea World.…

From the time of ancient Egyptians the prosthetics were created to help the amputees and giving them a feeling of wholesome. The earliest recorded prosthetic comes from 15th century B.C which was made of wood and leather and it was used to replace toes of an amputees. Prosthetics and bionics have always helped people recover from their disabilities and gave them a chance to live a better but not completely normal life. In 21st century new experts with new ideas are making prosthetics and bionics that are giving amputees a chance at normal mobile life. In the past, amputees who received a bionic leg would have to walk with a crutch because, although they would have a replaced limb, it was not able to function as a real leg. Now, there are creations…

In 2012 Oscar Pistorius or also known as “Blade Runner” completed in the Olympics and the Paralympics. This started a debate on people complete with or without someone with prosthetic limbs. Are they free to complete with those that don’t have prosthetic limbs? This thought came to me during a past conversation with few of my friends who are about to headed to Olympics. They asked why do athletes with prosthetic were made to be so separate from other athletes. As I started do research this important question, I realized this separation is possibly the last discriminatory hurdle for the Olympics to get over. Some might argue that a disconnect game for “disabled” people highlights their personal needs but this form of attention can be…
