Abstract
The purpose of this research is to examine the physical troubles that come along with being diagnosed with osteoporosis and to investigate current medications to reverse/stop the process of this silent disease. The reader will gain knowledge of how over the years physicians have gained a better understanding of Postmenopausal and Senile Osteoporosis through varied studies in both male and female. They will also discover the risk factors of both types.
Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bone tissue deteriorates to a point where the bone becomes fragile and may fracture with minimal trauma. The elderly and postmenopausal are the most affecting age group. One third of women up to the age of ninety will suffer at least one fracture of the hip, wrist, spine or other susceptible bone attributable to osteoporosis. While reading this paper you will explore the history, the different types of osteoporosis and the physical effects that come along with them, as well as the ongoing research for a cure.
Osteoporosis has haunted women forever is seems like. From over four thousand years ago Egyptian mummies have been found with the dowager 's hump, a curvature of the spine resulting in a stoop. Skeletal studies of ancient civilizations provide a unique insight into the pathogenesis of osteoporosis. In 2004 the Old Kingdom of Giza experimented and studied on seventy-four different skeletal workers and high officials through dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), scanning electron microscopy, and histological studies. This study aimed to evaluate osteoporosis according to age and sex in ancient Egyptians. In this particular study bone mass density resulted in a decreased at all measured sites by ageing, in both groups, and showed a significant decrease in bone mass density after the age of fifty,
