She obtained her master’s degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Ahuva has been teaching for over 30 years. She works in oil, watercolour and mixed media. Much demand for commissioned artwork, Ahuva’s paintings grace the home of confidential art collectors and offices throughout the country. Her work has been featured in six one-artist shows in a variety of locations in San Antonio and she has been the recipient of numerous art awards. I believe Ahuva is a great, well-respected and influential artist to explore in my theme because she uniquely illustrates roses by creating soft “buttery” spatula strokes. This allows the flower to be more expressive and abstract as the strokes are freely painted. Instead of using her choice of medium, oil paints, I used acrylic paints as they conveniently dry much faster and I was interested to see how the texture would differ in result of the painting. My observation was that acrylic paints do not blend as smoothly as oil paints because of the different consistency and the fact that they dry much faster. I watched Ahuva Shweiki’s YouTube tutorials ‘Painting Roses in Oil with a Palette Knife in 3 Easy Steps’ and ‘How to Paint a Red Rose in Oil …show more content…
They bear an aura associated with the Renaissance, yet due to her signature eloquent, dynamic technique are refreshingly modern. “Romanticism” is the greatest word to describe Anna’s works. The interlacing of quiet tones with an impact of bright color at the end is the trademark of the artist. Abstract elements are a large aspect of every artwork and in combination with the sultry dynamics creates an unforgettable experience for the viewer. I truly admire Anna Razumovskaya’s artwork as she paints with such passion and refinement, which is reflected in her every one of her compositions. For this reason, I consider her to be an ideal artist to explore under my theme. ‘Spanish Harlem’ has the essences of tenderness, elegance and beauty, as well as boldness. This is portrayed through the soft pastel colors and contrasted with rich colors such as red, pink and brown. One of the pieces I reacted called ‘Spanish Heat’ is an illustration of a female flamenco dancer. Through her movement the dress has formed into a suggestive rose. This reflects on the metaphorical image that Ben E. King portrays when he sings about the woman he has fallen in love with as a “red rose”. This image exemplifies the Hispanic ethnicity and the beauty and symbolism of a rose which I wish to portray in my
