Our Future Speech
Children are our tomorrow - our future. Bright faces that I see here today receiving prizes and evincing their talents will be the citizens of tomorrow. They may tomorrow grow up to be Einsteins, Edisons, Gandhis, Abdul Kalams & Ananda Krishnans or they may just turn out to be a burden on the society, stragglers in the race of life waiting for someone to give them a job. What our children are going to be in future is what we make of them. The talents they demonstrate here are the proof that they have the potentiality to be the useful citizens of the future.

They are brain-washing the poor of the area by saying that Zahira belongs only to the Muslims of Colombo Central. Zahira has only 440 seats an year. We know how upset parents get when their child is refused admission.

The journey taken by Malala Youzafzai was not an easy one. She was born to an illiterate mother and a hardworking father in the beautiful valley of Swat in Pakistan. She stood up for the right of education for the fellow young girls in Pakistan with full determination and spirit and fought against the Taliban. Her father Ziauddin Yousafzai, an education activist was her greatest inspiration and motivated her to stand up as an advocate for education and freedom. Unlike other Pakistani girls, Malala was not fearful of covering her head with a scarf rather than putting on a burqa. She did not believe in hiding the girls and women behind the curtains and seizing their rights of education and freedom. The Taliban prohibited Pakistani people from listening to music, watching television, women going for shopping, laughing and chatting and most importantly they banned education for girls. Malala bravely stood up for their rights. She started blogging, writing and speaking against Taliban’s inhuman activity.…

From what I can gather according to Cornel West the purposes of Education as he believes is to take what you assumed to be true about life and let that all go. Wipe the slate clean in your mind of what you thought you knew and allow "education" to show you what life is really about. So many of us are just living for the moment and on the surface, life is way more complex than that and with the proper education we would be able to move in the right direction.…

For thirty long years Sri Lanka was torn apart by a malevolent war between the country’s majority and minority; a war that not only claimed the lives of many, soldiers and civilians alike, but also destroyed much property and dammed the country’s growth in uncountable ways. The whole of Sri Lanka grieved as one at all that was lost but it would not be incorrect to say that it was the north that suffered the most; it affected the education, economy, health, security, agriculture and overall the lives of the people of that part of the island.…

As I attended the ceremonies and cultural events I couldn't help but to notice how involved the youth are. As I wrote in my journal ".... There are children with instruments. There are children practicing their choreography. There is a child mimicking her mother's gestures as she talks in her native tongue. All whom which are preparing for a parade. A celebration of their country". I really think that the whole aspect of community and passing on their traditions is something that needs to be shared about this culture. As one member of the organization Sri Lanka American Association of Southern California -SLAASC- said in the interview "Our goal is to foster the spirit of fellowship through the enrichment of cultural heritage for the Sri Lankan community. We pride ourselves for bringing Sri Lankans closer in the community". Not only does this organization bring the community closer, it also allows the community to show the public their culture. Giving them a glimpse of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan community feel that it is important to continue their traditions. It is important to carry on their pride for their country and…

For three long decades Sri Lanka was torn apart by a malicious war between the country’s majority and minority. This war made the northern part of the country inaccessible to most of us; its citizens. I myself thought that the people, culture and beauty of Jaffna and its surrounding areas would forever remain a mystery to me. However once the war ended the north opened its doors for the rest of the island to come witness all it has to offer. Even with this great opportunity at my grasp, yet I was not capable of visiting northern Sri Lanka as I simply never had the chance to. Luckily this chance was given to my fellow college mates and me by our college, the chance to see and experience the post war north.…
