Student Activism is a commonly practiced movement done by students in order to affect/cause political, environmental, economic, or social change.
In the Philippines the big 4 universities mainly the University of the Philippines, Ateneo De Manila, De La Salle, University of Sto. Thomas and they are notorious for being the center of student activism and youth organizations that fought for political changes and human rights.
During the years of president Ferdinand Marcos the student activists originating in the university of the Philippines, stirred up masses of youth and working individuals to fight for their beliefs, and protest actions took place causing shock in the country during the entire period or 1960s.
An example of student activism was the presence of the religion-setarians of UPSCA and Iota Eta Sigma as they opened their high in campus politics, by harping on issues such as fraternity hazing, justifying the need for a more religious outlook on the University and separations of the Church from state. This took place under the University of the Philippines. Giving a better light on the other universities, we go to the Students of Ateneo de manila, an issue that aroused during this period was the 7 ateneo students who fought the regime, namely, Edgar Jopson, Abbraham Sarmiento Jr., Ferdinand Arceo, Artemio Celestial Jr., Manuel Hizon Jr. Emmanuel Lacaba, and William Vincent Begg, who all fought for student rights and protested agaisnts the dictatorship of Marcos and either Killed or Jailed for the movements conducted.
