Overcoming Obstacles In Early Childhood Education

Being the youngest sometimes feels like being an underdog. I am the youngest student of the 2018 graduating class at George Wythe High School. In my early elementary years, this caused me many barriers that I have been able to overcome. Being the firstborn, my parents worked with me and followed the advice of preschool teachers that I was ready for school. I overcame many academic and social slow starts through my elementary years. Through the support of my parents, assistance of good teachers and my own determination I was able to overcome many hindrances. I continue to struggle with test anxiety, but I have been able to overcome many early academic issues. Academically, I will graduate in the top ten percent of the graduating class.
I am a quiet and reserved personality, but through early years of being overlooked, I was able to find a sport that made me be more social. Athletically, I was challenged to perform in front of people by cheerleading since third grade. I continued to work on my skills and abilities and I became the captain of the cheer squad this year. I have found being young does not diminish what I expect of myself. My extracurricular activities in clubs, organizations, volunteer work, and having a part-time job have allowed me to amass numerous experience socially. I am determined to not be left behind and I will bring the same strong determination with me to Virginia Tech.
