Data Protection Act 1998 The data protection act protects people who are identifiable from their information and data being shared. The information will be bank details, address and billing and some other personal details. Information is collected from club card registrations and application forms. They cannot publish these details and will be securely stored on a database. However the information can be used by Tesco for market research which may include taking part in surveys.
Freedom of Information Act 2000 This act creates a public ‘right of access’ to information held by public authorities. Tesco hold certain information that can be accessed by the public. At a fee of £10 they can see what history and incidents have happened in store. They must provide this information when requested but also keep the information up to date and regulated so that it is accurate.
Computer Misuse Act 1990 The computer misuse act states that hacking via computers is illegal as well as sharing the information gained. Tesco will have a secure database and will try preventing hacking from happening by having firewalls in place. Hacking may take place from within store so the employers will have to trust its employees
Use of email and Internet Employees are not allowed to use the internet whilst working however permitted employees whose roles need internet access and email are, if it’s answering customer enquiries or complaints. Colleagues are not to misuse computers or other devices for things that are not work related. Employees must not have their phones on them whilst working unless they are on their break.
Policy on Whistle-blowing Employees may report incidents or wrongs doings to senior staff or by using a hotline to remain anonymous and protect themselves. Tesco provide anonymity to their employees when reporting a concern or incident in some cases to protect their identity so that they won’t be brought into the case.
