Mutability By Percy Shelley
For my reading and poetry assignment, I chose to work with Percy Shelly’s “Mutability” poem. Prior to me reading Percy Shelley’s work, I had very small knowledge of the poets’ material. In fact, I had little knowledge and awareness for this style of poetry submitted in this time period. But the poem was created in the Romantic Period, and Percy Shelley decided to give his network a brief emotional, but raw poem on “Mutability”. Mutability is in fact the human characteristic that verifies us as human. . Percy Bysshe Shelley was one of the major English Romantic poets. He was born on August 4th, 1792 in Field Place, England. Shelley practiced atheism early in life and was know as a radical thinker. Often throughout his time period as a poet, he found his poems not getting published do to a concern to publishers, for his aggressive content. After his death, Shelley became an icon to a generation of poets after him. Much of Shelley’s life beliefs and values were incorporated into the “Mutability” poem. The structure of the poem is layered as a lyrical poem. Within the first stanza of the body of work, Shelley solely relates many things in life to the natural objects in the universe. The poem opens up with the first line, “We are as clouds that veil the midnight moon, how restlessly they speed and gleam, and quiver”. Shelley sets the tone from the first line in the poem by initiating the reader to visioning “clouds moving through the sky and foreseeing how the writer relates it to the reader.
From the set point of this piece of work, I began to catch wonder about what the writer meant by this opening stanza. I had to read over the stanza on several different occasions to get a firm understanding on what Shelley was attempting to express in this form of art. “Streaking the darkness radiantly, yet soon.
