In fact, they are seen as a disgrace to a family because they do not carry the family name. As Malala explained in her book, “For most Pashtuns it’s a gloomy day when a daughter is born.” Since most women in her country can not get an education, there is no hope for a girl to grow up, be successful and provide for a family.
