Jesus loved to tell a good story to make a point, and The Good Samaritan is one of His most famous parables of all.
"Love your neighbor as yourself" was part of the Old Testament Law (Leviticus 19:18) that was sacred to the Jews. But, many people thought a "neighbor" meant only their fellow Jews. One day a lawyer asked Jesus, "And just who is my neighbor?" Jesus told the Parable of the Good Samaritan to answer his question in a way we can never forget.

However, if you read Matthew 13:10-17, you will see that Jesus did not expect people to understand what he was saying. If you think you know what the parable means at first glance, chances are you missed the point. This is because parables are not as clear as you might expect. There is always some doubt about the exact point of the story, and the result is that the listener or reader wonders why the story is so strange or unsettling— “Hey, that's not supposed to happen that way!” You begin to think more deeply about the meaning of the parable. That is the goal—parables raise more questions than answers. They help us see beyond the obvious into the deeper meaning that Jesus had in mind. I feel there are bound to be some parables that have lost their meaning throughout out the years due to changes in lifestyle and the general way we look at life. But, I think that most of the parables are in fact relevant. For example, the parable I told before “The Good Samaritan”, we are told that we should love our neighbor whether or not we are friends with them or if we even know them. It doesn’t matter and we should still be prepared to help them. The key message was that everyone around us is our neighbor and it is applicable today in such organizations as World Vision, Salvation Army, and Habitat for Humanity. These organizations show that the message is still important today probably even more so than it was in the times of Jesus because in the times we are living now there is a lot of war and
