Paranormal Activity 2
Paranormal Activity 2

Paranormal Activity is a horror movie posed as a documentary. Now, documentaries can be very interesting and educational. However, this fake documentary is a disgrace to the horror genre. I had seen all the previews and debated about going to view the movie. After being talked into going, I was very disappointed. Minus the three or four small events, the entire movie is nothing but watching security videos where there was no scary paranormal activity. These handful of events didn’t occur until the later part of the movie. This caused me, and I’m sure many others, to lose interest before the movie even got started. I strive for the thrill of the climax in movies. Paranormal Activity 2 didn’t have much of a climax. This was also a very aggravating aspect of this movie. Now, to talk about the few paranormal events that actually took place. First, there should have been lots more of the activity itself, and less of the uneventful scenes in the film. I did take notice to the occasional light flicker. Light flicker aren’t intriguing to audiences that enjoy horror movies. Honestly, the light flicker is an elementary effect to startle young kids. I just want to get the point across that this movie doesn’t live up to its standards. There was one scene where something paranormal happened then a way too long wait until the next event. I will agree that the later part of the movie where all, and I mean all, of the paranormal phenomenon occurred was interesting and could have been unexpected. Like every other movie playing right now, the best scenes are in the previews, which makes it movie more predictable. How everyone thinks this movie is terrifying, I will never understand. The very end is the only point where anything could be remotely scary. The end of the movie is not the entire film! Over half the movie was boring and irrelevant. By the first twenty minutes we know the house set up and where each character sleeps. Not too much later we discovered the basement was the spot where the spirit/demon/evil thing stayed. This left the entire middle of the movie dead. With nothing keeping your attention the film becomes boring. Like I have said multiple times, this movie is a disappointment. It is not interesting not is it an overall startling film. It is aggravating and annoying if anything. I’d probably say it’s more annoying, because it takes so long to get any type of paranormal events to occur. In personal opinion, I don’t consider “Paranormal Activity” a horror movie. It is more like just a bad idea of a movie that is popular due to the stupidity of society.

To start off, the most obvious aspect of the horror genre that is in this film is vampires as they are a supernatural creature. The Vampires in the film are what you would expect; blood-sucking beasts with their sharp teeth, which sleep upside down, cast no reflection and who are afraid of sunlight. But that’s not all of it.…

It’s not a perfect film, but the opening certainly is. The film from minute one seems less concerned with actually being scary in the sense that it’s trailers reveal, but more scary in the sense that it wants people to consider how terribly materialistic they are around this time of year. It’s the type of film that will let little things like a christmas tree catching on fire seem to hit so hard, but then turn around and leave you asking “Why…

A genre such as supernatural horror is meant for an audience that desires to feel that rush of adrenaline running through their bodies. The purpose of this genre is to satisfy the curiosity of people that let their minds wander off about the supernatural world. The audience expects to get goosebumps, and to be on the edge of their seats while chewing their nails. If that is what a movie of this genre causes the audience, then the producers have done their job correctly. A supernatural horror movie targets and expands upon the audience's fear. Therefore, the supernatural genre has to frighten you in order for the film to be scary.…

I expected to be extremely petrified with fear and wishing I hadn’t stayed. I genuinely thought Psycho was a terrific film. It wasn’t filled with gore and jump scares similar to current movies in the horror genre are. I was still sinking into my seat every time the music filled me with suspense, yet I was never hiding from the absolute horror that I had anticipated. I’m sure the few violent scenes would’ve been considered gory when Psycho came out, although nowadays, the effects are almost laughable. These outdated effects helped me survive the movie without cringing yet never did they take away from the film. After viewing this famous cinematic piece for myself, I understand why this film has become extremely iconic and is commonly referenced in pop culture today. This film was absolutely phenomenal and I will probably even watch it again. Haunted High wasn’t close to any cultural event I have ever done. I have been to other Global Ed sponsored movies, however Haunted High was different. This cultural event truly put me out of my comfort zone and forced me to try something new. I am extremely glad that I did and I would highly recommend that others attend Haunted High and watch Psycho, especially if you’re not quite into the horror genre. Psycho has showed me that just cause the video production is labeled as horror, doesn’t imply that I’ll hate it. Watching Psycho may have even allowed me to open my mind and I might even consider watching a different horror…

Another example of a supernatural event would be on p.44 when Dr. Watson and Sir Henry Baskervill are both awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of a woman crying. “It was the sobbing of a woman, the muffled strangling gasp of one who is torn by uncontrollable sorrow” p. 44 was Dr. Watson’s account of the incident. What makes this even qualify as supernatural is that after Dr. Watson goes looking for the woman he finds that the only female sleeping in the house is Mrs. Stapleton who claims to have not been crying and eludes to the possibility of s supernatural explanation of the sounds.…

I have always wanted to see this movie, but never had the time to get around to it. There was so much hype going around about it. When I first heard about the movie coming to theaters, it did not sound like a movie I would like. However, when the word got around to me, I knew I just had to check it out. I must say that I am glad I sat down and watched it in its entirety. My first opinion was totally wrong.…

My only issue with the film is there's no linger dread left after. The film is given a happy ending with good winning over evil. I would have loved to see something that showed that while temporarily defeated, Bedlam isn't gone for good. Which I guess could be there since he final shot after the credits is Bedlam making a mouse. But, I find that train of thought unsatisfactory.…

Throughout the movie there were some negative things that were present within it. Some of these were how the songs would just randomly begin and could make a certain scene loose its significance and meaning, the plot itself seemed to be a bit predictable and disappointing until a plot-twist occurred. The ending of the movie I found confusing and a cliché. Although there were a few negative aspects present in the movie I still believe it was a successful movie and quite enjoyable.…

This film also seems to be credited as being a surreal adventure. While there may be a lot of subtext, hidden messages, themes, and over glorified imagery, I did not find this film to be surreal or a revelation of any sort. Honestly, I didn't like the film at all. As with almost every single Japanese movie I've ever seen, the premise always sounds amazing. When I read a one sentence plot synopsis of these movies, they look intriguing, and then when the movie is finished, I find my self asking "how is it possible to make such a cool premise so boring". And it's…

The definition of a ghost is “a disembodied spirit imagined” (“dictionary.com, year”). To some people, this word is a joke. For others, it is a normal part of life. About 50% of people believe in ghosts, and 37% in haunted houses. This might be why ghost hunting shows are such a hit. There are shows such as “Ghost Adventures” and “Ghost Hunters”, which are now in their 8th and 13th season. Now more people are conducting their own experiments and trying to communicate with the dead (Radford, 2014). I believe that Aafter reviewing the evidence, there is enough evidence to confirm the existence of ghosts.…

But, I think that the film would have benefited a little more from some character development scenes. Or better yet, if the first half of the film focused on the Norwegian crew and what had happened to them. And it is funny I mentioned that because the 2011 prequel film also called “the thing” did just that. With that films ending being the beginning of the john carpenter film. And if you view that film first then you find the biggest flaw to “the thing” 1982, and that is that once you know who or what the monster is then the tension goes out the window with the second viewing. Mostly because you scratch your head and wonder “when did he change?” or “why did he do x?” So, this is a film that is not the same on future viewings. But is that so…
